Saaaay, what time is it over there Prissy??? It is 3 am here, so it has got to be 5 or 6 over there! Oh wait, some people get up that early huh? Wow, ok, never mind. LOL. Time for bed but I dont think I can make myself do it... Grrrr.

It was recommended to me that I not raise the humidity during the last week and when I stopped, I had much better hatches. The eggs need to dry down enough that the babies can move around in the eggs and that when they break the membrane, there needs to be air there, and not water. The humidity created as the eggs pip and hatch should be enough for the babies to hatch - unless you are like me and can't keep the incubator closed! LOL!! Then you will need to add a little but be careful, as it can drown them.

I also take them out for about a half an hour a day to let the embryo cool down. This mimics what the mother goose/duck does. She will be off the nest for quite a while at a time eating and drinking. This step also really helps them to hatch.

Edited to add: Great pictures!! I hope to see more!

Oh yea! We talked about it before, Miss Prissy. Sometimes I forget who I talked to about what. Let me know how you do with your hatch. I think the cooldown really helped me.

I am interested in how the humidity thing works for you. I went from using high humidity to using almost none - but we are not that dry in my part of the country so humidity usually runs above 35% even with no water. I say dry - but I do put a small bowl in the bottom of the bator, and only refill it when it runs dry. I just don't add more at the end. The first couple of years, I sprayed the inside every time I opened the bator - to keep the humidity high enough - and I drowned most of my ducks and geese.

Isn't it exciting to see the embryos in the duck and goose eggs? I can usually see them so much better than in chicken eggs, though it seems to take forever for them to show up! And they wiggle more than the chickens, it seems!

I am excited for you! Hope your hatch goes better next time greyfields.

edited for spelling, darn it!
