Just curious...how many of you have air-conditioned coops????

I wish! We have 100 degree temps and 60%+ humidity. It's like being in the amazon. We have to have air conditioning, which kinda sucks because it makes you reluctant to leave it, and when you do the heat seems even more unbearable because you are aclimated to the cooler air.

No A/C here in my coop/ mine have fan and a mister. The mister is great I sit it in front of the fan and it blows through the hen house. They love it my silkies sit right under it and they get soaked then they go lay in the sun.

I was thinking of getting a smaller window a/c for the coop and let it kick on at 80 degrees, but heard the difference in temps in/out of coop could kill the chickens. A steady 90 degrees is far safer than a fluctuation of temps.

I just built my coop this past month. (Should've been week, but it took forever). I have a large window for ventilation, insulated ceiling, double layered flooring, and an infrared heat bulb. I also have a heated waterer w/ thermostat control for winter. I plan to surround outside(bottom) w/ bales of hay for added wind protection. Maine winters are tough, but I think we'll make it just fine. As for a/c, we don't get enough "heat" in Maine to worry about them getting too warm. I did put a childrens plastic swimming pool in the run in case they need a bath or want to cool off ...lol...

I do have air conditioning in their coop. It is 110 degrees outside today and the coop would be hotter than that by at least 20 degrees.

Do people make fun of me? Yep, but there is no way I could let them suffer in this kind of heat.

I just put the windows across from each other so that a good breeze could blow through and have a fan in one of the windows. When the temps. outside hit 95 degrees, the fan goes on around 3:00 in the afternoon. We built my coop under a lot of trees, so it stays shaded until about 3:00 then it goes back into the shade about 7:00. I guess the trees keep things the coolest. Hopefully the trees won't be a bad thing come winter.
