What do you think the odds are of a chicken surviving an impacted crop the size of a softball that is just as hard and turned sour with no other treatment except stool softener and occasional massage?

Been there done that with impacted crop. Perform crop surgery or cull.

I had a Speckled Sussex that had an impacted crop... Not sure what it was impacted with but it was hard as a rock and the size of a softball. I was just about ready to cull her when my sister passed away and culling my hen got put on the back burner. I kept reading that a chicken wont survive an impaction that severe. But interestingly enough, she did. All I treated her with was stool softener and occasional massage (usually in the morning and then again at night). The last week, I ended up just doing nothing as that is when my sister passed away... Her crop has gone back to normal after a good 3 or 4 week impaction. She has put weight back on and every morning her crop is empty.
