Backyard flocks are just as susceptible given that salmonella is transmitted by wild animal and rodents feces, and can be spread by flies. Then there are those folks who don't refrigerate them... Yet, even in commercial egg production salmonella tainted eggs are rare. They say 1 in 20,000 may be contaminated and then an egg has to be consumed by somebody that didn't properly cook it.
You could eat raw eggs, commercial or home-produced, for the rest of your life and never get sick, but there is a risk there.
