Just curious who else is living super frugal

The powder type is identical. Only difference is you don't mix it in water. Grate up the soap and mix it with the borax and washing soda and use a tablespoon or 2 per wash.

Hmmm...somehow I ended up with 2 sets of the grater/slicer contraption for my Kitchen Aid Mixer. I'm thinking that might make short, easy work for the grating...and I could keep that one aside for just that purpose.

Thanks for the link, galanie.

Good idea! Because after using the grater attachments on soap, they can be a bit of a pain to clean. Which sounds really funny since you're washing off Soap.

I have used my Kitchen Aid grater attachment for grating soap too, and take it outside if possible since it produces a HUGE amount of dust.

My favorite soap is Fels-Naptha for making my laundry detergent - but I have quit making it lately. I used to make it like this: one cup borax, one cup washing soda and half a bar of Fels-Naptha. Use a bit of it for each load. I didn't liquify it.

That's what I was thinking, galanie. I have a number of appliances that are dedicated for "crafts" as opposed to food. Oddly enough, soap is really hard to clean off things.
I throw all my food processor blades & attachments into the dishwasher after making the powdered. They always come out sparkling!

You have a dishwasher? :)

Mine broke 8 years ago and I now use it to store bird seed. Just refuse to spend money fixing such a thing LOL.
