Just curious? Who names all their chickens and who doesn't?

I only have two that have names. An old barred rock that has crooked toes that we call Crook; and Gary, a golden comet 'hen' that for some reason has never laid an egg. We originally called that chicken 'Useless' but changed it's name to 'Gary' after my fiance's old co-worker. Apparently, Gary was not the best worker.

We do have names for the groups of chickens. The year old golden comets are 'The Velociraptors'. The old, old hens are 'The Old Ladies'. The cornishx are just 'The Meaties" and the ISA brown chicks are just the 'Lil Reds'.

Yes, I name mine, at least the ones I can tell apart or stick out through personality. For instance, my Golden Comets are collectively called the "Golden Girls" cuz they're good little girls, and I can't tell them apart. Now my EEs all look different, save a few, they have names. And a few Silkies are named because they stand out, like Tony, because he has a scar on his head.

Here's my list:

EEs--Singular Joter, Big Red, Feo, Black Cap, Kickin' Wing, Cinnabun, Smoke, Muffy, Peeper and Dodo Bird.

Silkies--Snowflake, Cookie and Tony.

I name all the chickens I can tell apart from the rest

I even sometimes name the Cornish: Dinner, Mr. Meatie, Lunch, Tasty, With Green Beans, etc.

I love naming chickens, I can name them anything I want and they don't care a bit, unlike kids.

I name them which lead to problems when we discuss butchering. (note in the year there are several roosters that were allowed to stay because they got under my skin) I try and keep it in my head that a few will be dinner but... boy is it hard to feed them, laugh with them and enjoy their company and not name them.

But what are you going too do? Kids don't help as they like to name them as chicks.

We have five, two are named. We have "Big Girl" because she is the biggest and we have "Goofy" because she is acts goofy. She scratches out a wallow and lays on her side like a pig. Many of a time I have walked up and thought "O crap, something is wrong with her" and she will stand up and start scratching. The other three are not named.

Mom named a few of hers:

Blackie= EE with a black muff

Brownie = a redstar (sexlink)

Whitie = a white Olive eggers

and

the Old Hen.............pretty original!

The rooster usually goes by Roosty (Roo)
