Just curious? Who names all their chickens and who doesn't?

I dont name anything that I know Im gonna eat eventually, I do have a few that I consider pets though and do name them..

i only have 3 chickens. pets, and for eggs. named: odette, cucumber, and rosalee.

Well I do have lots of mine named but then there are some you really can't tell apart so they remain called "here chick chick"....LOL...I currently have 50 at various ages.

We have 18 chickens and all (well almost all) have names..Foghorn the leghorn rooster(naturally!) Hennny Penny a whit roock hen, Chicken Little...leghorn hen, Red a RIR (we think a roo), Dumplin a silkie hen, Geraldine a domineker hen, Hazelshe's a mutt lol, Bessie a blue rock hen, BokBok a blue laced red wyandotte (named by our friend's daughter) Patsy and Maebelle are cornish cross hens, Fanny and Irene are easter eggers, Nugget is the smallest of the bunch..a mille fleur d'uccle bantam, and then there's the Kenny's lol...3 young leghorns...can't tell them apart...I know kenny isn't a good name for a hen but it came from a youtube video I watched about egg laying...in the credits the listed Kenny as "all the white ones" lol

Names...

I origionally didn't want to name my chickens so then I wouldn't grow attached, but then I had an idea.

Name them after elements of the periodic table.

First one Hydrogen, Second one Helium, Third one Lithium...

Am I a genius or what!!!

My user name tells the story..Chickey chickey's head got slammed in a door 2 winters ago and she didn't look like she'd make it But with lots of doctorin she pulled thru with one eye still good. She lays 28 eggs a month and is one of many
named chickens and 3 roos . The babies aren't named until we know if they're staying..We have some great names and we discuss them alot with a friend and between ourselves. Chickey is an EE along with 6 others ,3 cochins,1 partridge rock,1red leghornx, 4 bantam cochin mixes, 3 gamefowl heinz 57 ...and 8 assorted chicks plus I bought 2 blue andalusions. I just read this back and along with my 5 dogs, 2 cats and 2 foster cats and 4 cockitiels and last but surely not least 1 30+ year old horse..I'm certifiable.It's all good!

my fav one got the name Henerietta..im not sure why it sounded like a chicken name. The other ones got ridiculous names based on the looks and attitudes. The big black bird with "blonde" highlights that picked on the others and at the end turned out to be a roo was named Ophra by my boyfriednd. The classic roo was foghorn leghorn. Then there's little guy that is the smallest. Indian dude when he was small had a mohak. Pheasant looked like a pheasant and the 2 black and one red just didnt merrit names. They all come to girls and only Henerietta comes to her given name. I do have a new chick that looked like a penguin so he will be named mumbles from happy feet

I named them as a joke when they were peeps. General Tso's, Kung Pow, Sweet&Sour, etc. Also they got dog food related names like Milkbone, Alpo, Rawhide, etc as well as simply being called Chicken 1, Chicken 2, etc. They were collectively known as the McNuggets for a while which started when I first brought them home and referred to them as a "6 pack of McNuggets"...

There was one who was ahead on the feather development and earned the name Wing-Ding. I think that's who my Ham is but I'm not sure she was handled the most and became very used to it. I never made any attempt to label them or keep their names straight and now they just go by the name "Little Cluckers" collectively. They don't have individual names because one day they might become soup...

I haven't named any of my new babies yet. But once they get a little older and their personalities start really showing, I probably will.
