Strange for an indoor rooster to contract gapeworms. Have you looked in his mouth to see if there are any lesions? Might also explain what he is doing with his mouth.

Search this site for avian trichomonias (canker) in chickens. I have never dealt with it, so cannot speak from experience. I have dealt with fowl pox, which can also cause lesions in the mouth, throat, etc. That will clear on its own, the trichomonias will not. Keep us posted. Hoping your guy will be ok.Yea I’m thinking it was not gapeworm, started him on Tylon 50 today, when I look in his mouth what exactly am I looking for I’ll try to get a picture as well.

Last night yes, before I put him to bed in his cage every night I let him lay with me while I watch tv he normally comes right up and puts his head on my shoulder. Is he still open mouth breathing while roosting at night?
I've been dealing with gapeworm for a full year. My rooster fell against his cage so hard trying to dislodge the worm that one worm came out of his throat when he fell it was a gapeworm blood red and forked. I used fenbendazole on him for 5 days and retreated after 10 days, I got 46 worms out of this tiny two-pound rooster. After the withdrawal period, all symptoms returned. I did this from November through May with the same results the worms always come back. In the warm months, I too got better with no signs of worms. But now that is cold I too have all the signs of having worms again he is falling head shaking etc. I'm retreating again but the fenbendazole is no longer working I believe that the worms have become immune to this medication. I'm not considering euthanasia because the quality of life is gone. I've read all info about gapeworm and it's more of a disease than treatable worm studies through the university state to terminate the flock immediately and the ground in which they were will be infected for years. I'm at a loss anyone in the world ever deal with these nasty worms and have had luck treating them please let me know because I'm at a loss and can't watch my chickens suffocate to death.Hi all, I'm new here and new to raising a rooster. I own a fishing company and decided to have a mascot Rooster. His name is Woolly, and he def has the life he lives inside basically as a dog would and gets a ton of attention, he also gets to travel the country with us when we go to fishing shows to promote our company. I had him since a chick he is 6 months old now. About 2 weeks ago he had many of the obvious signs of Gape Worm. He lost a lot of weight, yellow watery poop, was mouth breathing every night, was Gaping, growing, Shaking his head, and stretching his neck. So yea def looked like Gapeworm.
After reading some info on Gape Worm and talking to an online vet I treated him with Safe-Guard Goat Dewormer for 5 days at 10mg/lb. After about 2 days he was eating better poop was normal and seemed to be looking better. After day 5 of meds, I did notice his feathers mostly his tail feathers getting very shitty looking. Cracking, splitting, and very messy. Also, I noticed a lot of new feathers coming in kind of growing in clumps. Now we are on day 2 after the meds, tail feathers are even worse, and on and off yellow poop again. We also are gaping, coughing, and sneezing now, not all day but here and there.
I'm not too sure if there is the time it takes after the 5 days for this stuff to fully work. Also, I did not see any worms come up from what I read they are visible to the human eye, Wondering if they are dead and stuck in him now.
Just wondering if anyone here may have some insight for me I would appreciate it and so would Woolly.View attachment 3328089View attachment 3328091View attachment 3328092View attachment 3328093View attachment 3328094
