Hello! I bought four Red Sex Link hens in March 2014 and am enjoying watching them grow and feather. They are great fun, a wonderful past time, and they love my garden!

Hello and welcome to BYC!
They are great fun!
Feel free to ask questions...

Thanks, Emma P, for the reply. It will take me some time to learn my way around this site and forums. I have four hens (Henny, Penny, Little Red Hen aka "Red," and Chicken Little aka "Tiny." They have a run and I also let them out most evenings and they make the rounds of my garden. I am constantly amazed at their ability to tell when it's time to go back into their coop!

So glad you are enjoying your flock!

Great to have you aboard and we do welcome you to BYC!

Welcome to BYC! Glad you decided to join our flock. Your hens have some cute names. Red Sex Links are egg laying machines and should keep you well supplied in eggs. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your RSLs.

Thanks for the welcome! I do have a question: My hens are about five months old. One has a good comb, another has a full plumaged tail, and the other two are lagging in those areas, yet all are the same age. Does either a comb or filled out tail have anything to do with who will lay the first egg? I heard that they won't start until they are six to seven months old. What is your experience? Thanks, Harriet
