Just got a duckling - Laying limp - Got too cold?

Can u send a picture. What kind of soap? Did he drink any soap? Warm up a few small towels in ur dryer cuddle him in those for a bit than Get him to a box (tote) works well line it with a towel or paper towels he needs a heat lamp a 100 watt bulb will work till u find age out if u have a thermometer put in box under heat lamp so u can judge the temp if he huddles under it he a little cold if he goes away from heat or pants like a dog than he's to warm which can be as bad as to cold. get him some water if he's drinking ok add chick feed also for ducklings. After we figure age out and duckling improves I will go over what you need for him as well as many other members their very helpful on here. Keep us posted.

It was Dawn non-concentrated. None was drank nor any near his head. She used one drop, rinsed and lathered before touching.

I do not have a lamp and cannot get one at the moment. I do still have the heater running and will put him in a box as stated.

I get a lot more squeaking now vs before. If Im talking or touching it will continue to make noise and tries to run away; hopefully a good sign.

If he got to cold it will take him a little time to regain his strength scooting sounds like a start. Sorry hadnt seen last 2 post before I sent mine. But key is not to let him chill again.

Thats great news! I really hope this is recovery.

I will make sure he stays warm.

Thank you very much for the advice. I hope you will need to answer future questions as we raise him!

Guessing she's 1 to 5 days old her temp needs to be 90-95 degrees with a way to get away from heat if she gets to hot also being this young she needs a chick style waterer more than that she will get in it and drown but water must be avalaible at all times.

Does the baby have some water to drink?

Yes, I have him in a 24 pack soda box with a towel and a bowl about 2 1/2" deep with about 1/2" of water. Just checked on him and he is now holding his head up right and is a little over the bowl of water. Not sure if has drank any though; bill still looked dry.

You can also keep her warm by puting her in a warm room close to heater (not to close)pack pillows around the outside of box check temp if still to cool cover only half the box with a blanket or towel she needs to be well ventilated though.

Now suspecting two weeks old. GF says the friend who gave it to her had it at least a week.

I suspected drowning was possible, this is why I put in so little water. Ill see if I can find something else in the meantime (cant get one now).

Two wks temp around 90-80 f for waterer you can use small bowl and put rocks or marbles so she can't drown here's what works for me when you can get one
400
hope she continues to get well.

The duckling needs to stay warm. As stated about 80-85F with areas that it can get away from the heat. This is imperative and not something that you can get by without. Avoid anymore baths for the time being.

What are you feeding it?

For a waterer, take a small container with a lid, like a sour cream container, something that is not too tall. Cut a hole in the lid that is big enough for the duckling to get it's entire head in.
