Just got a new rooster with a flaccid comb

Thank you, Pele, RedDrgn, Karlamaria, Ewesheep, twocrowsranch, justacouplemorechicks, Kfaye, and all at this wonderful forum for your well-wishes and words of encouragement.

Keep us posted on his progress. Would love to see after shots of the healing process and also how he is getting along with the hens!

Omg you did it ! Wow what a difference. You are so brave. I'm so proud of you, it looked so painful, but you did it for the best of his quality of life. Awesome! I still do not believe in dong it for show, how cruel to put a bird in pain for a silly reason, but you, you did it for him and his well being, you rock!

I'm so glad that it went well for you both! I'm sorry that I didn't get back to posting good resources for you, but you did beauitfully!

I'm really happy he's shown improvement so quickly!

Dabbed him with saline and a q-tip and put neosporin on. It's still pretty crusted from the flour/blood. Tried putting him in a crate in the house but he wasn't having any of it and was threatening to injure himself. So I'm going to get up real early and let him out of the coop before the hens get up.

...Not gonna lie - I'm going to have nightmares tonight.

Okay, so I am dieing to know. How is he doing? If you ever have to do that again, they have this stuff called stiptick (spelling) that you can buy for the wound. Less chance of infection than from flour.

I never did post back about this, I just realized. Colin is doing very well. He's a huge brat, but he protects the hens very well. He is the father of six chicks now as well. Four boys and two girls.

You might trying to bet some of the highest strength Anbusol (spelling?) as it is atopical anesthetic that might make it more comfortable. It is sold at the drug store.
