Just got my e-mail from Holderreads! 6 week update, bottom pg.8

Oh, how unbelievably cute they are!!! I just realized it can't be a pekin--if they tell you what yours are, I'll bet mine is the same. Appleyard would be awesome! I've always wanted to see what they're like.

Okay. I'm amazed no one has razzed me yet about not having posted pictures. But here they are anyway.

My two-year-old kissing a black magpie:

One of my blue Runners is much paler than the others. Could it be a silver? It seems strange:

And hello!

Oh yeah--is it possible the yellow one is simply an unmarked magpie? Does that happen? Or maybe a silver marked magpie? Her yellow seems darker where a magpie would have marks and paler elsewhere. It seems like if you have blue, you'd sometimes get silver--would they maybe use the silvers as fillers?

And I really want to know about that "blue" runner--would they pack a silver runner when I'd ordered blues? I actually don't mind--I like silver, and it contain genetics I can use--it just seems strange.

Hmmm....
My extra yellow ones are just...yellow. They're not darker or lighter anywhere, and they have pink bills and feet. They're very big and round, which makes me think they're a large, "meat-type" breed.

I'll try and get better pictures of them later. Right now, they're napping.

I love the pictures!

I can't keep my kids away from our little ducklings. I think animals are great teachers for children. We are learning so much right now. Our favorite thing is how they wiggle their little heads and tails. We could sit and watch them all day.

I'm so happy for you all.

Ducks-R-Us just got some PRECIOUS Call ducklings from Holderread's

I am impressed, I might order from them sometime, but for now Ducks-R-Us is doing a good job keeping my duck cravings fed... So nice to have a BYC member so close with such an awesome setup!

I am DYING here!!! I got my email the other day saying that my runners will ship from them on Mon or Tues the week of May 17 with the weeks of May 24 and June 7 as alternatives! I ordered 10 runner ducklings. I asked for 5 white and 5 fawn and white show quality. With 10 penciled being my alternative color. I didn't know Holderreads sent extras with thier orders. Do they do that with all orders? I am only planning on keeping 5 or 6. I've never had ducks before. Youngest DD and I just cant wait. If they ship the week of May 17 they may even get here on her 8th birthday! How exciting would that be????

So how many did you actually order?
I thought you had to order 10 as a minimum?
I ordred 5 runner and 5 Welsh Harlequin and got my email that they would ship May 10, with the weeks of May 17 and May 24 as alternate dates.

You know, I was really hoping for that when I opened the box and saw all those yellow ones! But, on the bottom of the lid they wrote:

6 Dutch Hookbills (1 bonus)
5 Bargain Duckling Assortment

Plus, they don't have the curved bill like the Hookbills have, and they're too plump - in the pictures, you can see how much bigger than the Hookbills they are.

My best guesses:
- Pekin
- White Appleyard
- Aylesbury

Yes, the minimum order is 10, I got 1 extra duckling.

I ordered 5 Dutch Hookbills (which was all I was planning on keeping - I have extra Khaki Campbell and Pekin hens in the pen they're going to live in if I end up with too many drakes) and 5 "Bargain Duckling Assortment", because I didn't care what else I got, since I don't have room for them and was planning on giving them to my Aunt. But now it's driving me mad that I don't know what breed they are!

It should be declared an official holiday - April 7th, "Duckling Day"!

I was so jealous of you this morning when I saw pictures of your two little Runners - next thing you know, there's a call from the post office in the neighboring county at 11:30 telling me that mine were there! I had to drive about 40 minutes there to get them, and 40 minutes back - but it was worth it!
