I went to Tractor Supply and even though they did have some breeds I was interested in, they didn't have Buff Orpingtons. So I went to Rural King and found out they had 12% off everything sale. They didn't have all the breeds I was looking for but they did have the Orpingtons. I bought ‎2 Buff Orpington, 1 Rhode Island Red, 1 Leghorn and 2 ISA Brown. I also got everything to get started.

Aww cute! I have 2 orpintons that are around 4 weeks and though I don't give them tons of attention they are very friendly.

How exciting! Make sure your chicks can get a firm footing on that newspaper.

They seem to be doing ok. The woman that sold them to me said leave them on the paper for a week then switch to the pine shavings.

The total bill for a red bulb, brooder light holder, fountain, feeder, chicks, feed and pine shavings was $50.
I had $18 left on a gift card from my birthday and $15 I found on the ground at work. That left about $17 out of pocket. Everything there is 12% off this week. You go online and submit your receipt to get a store credit. That should be $6.

So the acutal cost of me getting into raising chickens is $11 so far.
