Just had a stoat attack!

I got the impression from Johnn's posts that he really cares about his chickens and I'm sure if he had an alternative he wouldn't allow the stoat to attack again and again. He is looking for a solution to this problem. I'm sure if he had another safe place for them he would've moved them by now.

will admit I also had to google what is a stoat. At least they are a cute predator. Although I am not sure if that makes it better or worse. Hard to be mad at such an attractive little critter. Have never seen such a thing near where we live...

I swore that if I EVER saw or found the nasty scum rat that shooed away my Prescious one an only guinea and polish roo I would skin that sucker with my fake nails! Might sound a bit harsh, but I HATE predators! People tell me " well, it's ther instinct..." and I say " and yes, it is MY instinct to kill them for getting near my babies..." end of story. I hate this stupid weasel! I know he's been coming around my coop since he attacked my hen too.

It is their instinct, nothing we can do about that. Except predator proof our coops and take care of the beasts that gets too brave. We let our mongoose get away with too much and they thought we'd opened a soup kitchen. As long as we have chickens we're going to have predators. And as soon as those things figure out where the local take away is they are going to become a problem. I leave killing them as a last resort, but if it boils down to that, then so be it.

That is very true!

Does he not have a coop? Seal it up if so
I dont know if you havent noticed from my pics, but my hens are completley free range, no coops, just a shed. But you are probablies thinking "why dosent he just lock them up in there?" well if you are the answer is because i dont think it would be fair too, and they would probablies kill each other because some really hate each other, all i hear walking down the field in the morning is them squaking and fighting!, I dont have anywere else to move them, hope that answers everything :/

Have you heard from the wildlife people yet? Any sign of the trap?
