Not too bad out of 32 eggs. Only 5 not developing. It says a lot for the packaging, and for the health of the hens who laid them. (On the shipped eggs)

Thank you so much Cyn for sharing your flock with me!!!!!! I can't wait until the Hens from this group are laying and I can return the favor!

Fabulous progress, Laney! I'm so happy the eggs are doing well for you, but dang it, that Dusty better get busy with Suede! Kathy, I hope your Orp eggs do better. There is a mix of Smoky and Dusty in with the Delawares.

Hey Everyone. I candled tonight a day early because I don't want to have to candle tomorrow night when I'm exhausted from taking my daughter to her TKD class. Here are the results:

Local Eggs:

Helen my Delaware: Movement and Veining in all 4 eggs

Store Bought Java Eggs from Whole Foods: 2 With Veining and Movement

1 Clear - pulled it

Speckledhen's Eggs:

Kira: Veining and movement in 2
Georgie: Veining and movement in 2
Becca BR: Veining and movement in 1
Ellie: Veining and movement in 3
Fern: Veining and movement in 2
Lexie: Veining and movement in 1
Gracie: Veining and movement in 3
Bloodring in 1 pulled
Smoky: Veining and movement in 1
Dusty: 3 Clear, pulled
Del: Veining and movement in 4
Bloodring in 1, pulled

So, that's 5 pulled total. I started with 32, down to 25, still one to many to use only one incubator! ROFL. I'm very excited with how well this batch is doing considering the weather during shipping etc! I am so excited and can't wait to see all the fuzzy butts!

No updates on the eggs, but I wanted to let you all know how this week was going to go so you don't sit here expecting a post about the eggs...

I am going to candle one more time. I am going to try to hold off until Saturday night. That is when the eggs are due to go on lock down.

Then I am going to lock them down. I'll give you the last update before hatch day then, because I'm going to head out of town Sunday Morning.

Beth, I'll be in your neck of the woods then on my second Honeymoon of sorts...or at least the first time I've gone away with DH and without DD since our Honeymoon!

Hatch is due to start on the 3rd, and I'll be back late the 2nd. In the meantime I'm taking a page from Scott's book and leaving the 14yo in charge of the hatch! Heck except for the supervision of her Grandparents I'm leaving her in charge of the whole farm! I'm thinking she'll do the better job! (When she wants too). So, do you think I'll still have at least 12 goats, 20 chickens, 11 ducks, 2 geese and a Dog when I get back? I won't blame her for any additions!

Ok, Results from the last candling:

Helen:
Eggs 1, and 3 showed movement and look good to go.
Egg 4 looked to be developing well, but no movement. May just be crammed in that egg, we'll keep our fingers crossed.
Egg 2.....darkness was all the way up to the membrane, lower half of the egg was clear with undefined cloudy edges to the darkness, no movement. We called it bacteria and pitched it. With us being gone, I'm not risking the entire hatch.

Java eggs bought at Whole Foods, both remaining Java 1 and 2 looked good and showed movement.

Speckledhen's eggs:

Kira's:
Egg 1 and 2 Had movement and look good to go for hatch!

Gracie:
Gracie's eggs 1,2 and 3 were all doing great, with movement, some more than others. Go Gracie!

Georgie:
Egg 1 looked to be developing fine but just would not move for us. Like a baby who only moves when Mama's asleep or Daddy's away.
Egg 2 moved like a rocket!

Ellie:
Ellie had three eggs rocking and rolling, movement in all.

Del:
Eggs labeled Del were all happy to show us their little dance. I had 4 moving chicks in there.

Fern:
Egg number 1 was too shy to move but did look to be developing. So we will keep our fingers crossed for that one just like Georgies number one however, it was really crammed into that egg too.
Egg number two moved the second the flashlight was put to it, this one will be the showoff sybling.

Lexie:
Lexie's little egg looked great! Movement was good.

Becca:
Becca's egg was moving wonderfully as well.

Smoky:
I let hubby candle Smoky and he said the movement was good here too!

All and all I'd call this a great success so far. I just won't count my chickens before they hatch. All eggs are now in one incubator, in case you lost track we are now at 24 eggs. I started with 25 from Cyn, plus my own 7 for a total of 32. Out of those 4 were clear and don't count against hatch percentages. So, if all 24 hatch, it will be 24/28..... not bad on shipped, grocery store, refrigerated eggs......

Laney
Who is still not counting chickens before they hatch.
