Having heavier chickens, imo sometimes helps. I had a hawk pick up my full 3 yr old plymouth rock, then dropped her, luckily she was okay (no injuries). Imo she was much too heavy. I wouldnt let my chickens free range for weeks. I have let them out this past week (they really enjoy being out of the run ) and sure enough they bless me with 3 brown eggs (they were on chicken strike and mad at me because they couldnt free range)) Anyways, hawks are very hungry right now.
