Just put two-day-olds under broody - DH worried they will suffocate

X10 Though I would have placed the chicks under cover of darkness, it sounds like she is accepting them already or she would stand up and act nervous and aggressive towards them.

Relax....mama hens have been "smotherin'" baby chicks for thousands of years without interventions...

Our hen has her first brood of 3 chicks, they're 2 days old. Today I watched her break up bit's of food for them. It was very cool to watch how she is taking care of them. I say just sit back and enjoy your girl taking care of her little ones.

Every one of your posts seems like an individual miracle to me. I hope I never lose this sense of wonder at what these mama hens can do. For the record, I wasn't worried about smothering til DH hit me with it after a sleepless night but I do think it's sweet that he was so worried. I'll never forget us bungling around in the pre-dawn dark trying to slip chicks under that poor broody. What a day! Thanks all!!
