Just registered for hunting course!!!

Egads...anyhoo, I took the hunter safety course when we belonged to a sportsmen club when I was 16. We went away to camp for the weekend and learned ALOT. I never really hunted, just personally don't care for it, but it's good to know all the info and how to use one. It really helped me when I was in college because I joined the Army ROTC program and was a heck of a shot on the rifle range.

It's been a long time but study the parts of the gun and the different type of actions. I remember that being a big part of the test (or the part I had trouble with LOL.)

Good luck!!!!!

I need to go take one of those courses.

Dad is wanting me to hunt next year's youth season.

But... deer are just so similar to horses, I don't know if I can do it.

I couldn't either, but that doesn't mean you can't go walk through the woods and spend quality time with dad. Unless he yells when you "miss" the shot

...but still, enjoy your time.

Bettacreek, you are about to enter into a faternity of people who have a love and understanding of the world we live in that far surpasses most. I've been enjoying the outdoors for over sixty years and the joy I experience and the peace I find has never lessened. For several years I was involved with teaching Hunter Safety courses and I was my good fortune that I was assigned the portion on ethics. Of course safe gun handling is a critical portion of the course, however, having a greater understanding of what makes a true outdoors person will add to your hunting experience. Welcome.

Opa, your wisdom and articulation never ceases to amaze me. Thank you.

Thank you for the generous compliment. I never cease to be amazed that anyone even reads what I've written. I just try to draw from many years of trying to live right and I then write what I feel.

Opa, I am sure I am not alone when I say that I try to read everything you post. You have wisdom that is to be shared and I really enjoy reading your posts.

Well, it's official, I'm now a hunter! Lol. The boyfriend and his brother went to get my license, and came back saying that they couldn't get the tags. I a bit irritated at the system, lol. Then, the bf pulls out a shotgun that he had just bought for me, brand spanking new! I hate when people do that, lol. Anyways, we went out to get squirrels. Saw three, shot two. Used two shells.

I'm so excited that I have my tags. I got the basic adult tag, but we're probably going to go back and get my bear tag, because the bear population is outrageous this year. We saw 5 bear last night and another one today. We're seeing them left and right. I have to figure out what I'm hunting buck with though. The first week, I get to use the BIL's gun (30/30 I think), but then he's using it the second week and I have to figure out what I'm doing.

Good for you- most of my family that lives in TN had to take one to get there permits. They said it was expensive. In AL you don't have to have one to get a permit they just do a background check But I did take my hunter safety course in 2001!

I'm a city girl turned country with no hopes of going back now
