Just say no!!!

You did great!! Here is how I probably would've handled it, though:
I would be very, very tempted to 'just take a look' I would've been smitten (you know, love at first sight) and then I would gladly take them.

JK, if someone offered them to me today I would have to say no, I'm in similar circumstances; most of my hens are molting, and I don't have any extra room on my hands. Plus I need to rehome 2 roosters.

So, wrapping it up- you did the right thing that most of us couldn't do; great job! :thumbsup

"smitten" is my downfall. every single time.

precisely!
and then there's the other hominid who shares this space and is dealing with 5 broken/dislocated ribs.... I'm on my own with all the chores until January.
That said, the 3 month old house kittens are a delight and the 4 year old Catahoula is getting a Border Collie companion at Thanksgiving. (my much loved Flat Coat Retriever companion died in August. We need another dog!)
There are enough critters to feed, clean up after, train and enjoy.
Had I looked, we'd have too many complications for right now. The temptation was intense. Practical won. this time.
Wow, you have a Catahoula in MT? That's a long way from where they originated. I have 2 currently. AWESOME breed!

Zooey is the result of my looking and being smitten and soft hearted. At 4 months she had been seriously abused and neglected, showed up at a friend's door... they are not dog people. She came home with me. She needed a home and that wasn't it.

Her early months were horrid. She's been a challenge but is a smart and sweet tempered dog.

They are strong herding dogs with intense prey drive. There is a rancher in the county who breeds them. He uses them with his bulls, also to track and tree mountain lions.

I was concerned how she'd see the chicks when they came home with me. It only took 3 days to persuade her that the fluffy chickies were "hers". She is absolutely reliable with them and very protective.

No disrespect intended but it sounds like you need to be put in a remedial chicken math class for resisting and being a bad influence to the rest of us!!!! lol....

<LOL> Are you in charge of the Remedial Class???

as they told us long ago and not so far away, one thing leads to another. Chickens are awfully addictive, aren't they? It is possible that had the parking lot event occurred in a warmer time of year, the outcome would have increased my flock size.
As it is, this morning was 19 above and we've had snow all week. Not a good time to put two hens in a temporary enclosure, under quarantine for a month or more.....
