Just say no!!!

I have lots of stories about people asking if i'd be willing to take in their chickens, ducks, goats, pigs, etc. The only thing is I didn't say no in any of those stories..

In a previous life I ended up with 4 RIR, one was a rooster, inherited from a friend who was moving.
Then there were the 3 goats plus one kid that an older person couldn't/wouldn't keep anymore.....
And the cats/dogs/ game birds....

People will dump their cats here, I've got about 15 barn cats so far, I try to find them homes for them but the older ones i'll keep, I've got a 3 legged cat and a very old cat with only 2 teeth left, Those two I spoil but the rest come and go. I actually went to pick-up a turkey who desperately needed to be re-homed, Ended up coming back home with a very over-weight turkey and a very under-weight goat. Both are doing great now~ I also took in a runt piglet when I went to buy a breeding bore for my gilt. Named him groot, Didn't get much bigger than when I took him in.. Still very cute~

15 cats ain't that much. I've had up to 26 before, That was a horrible time, Some kid had a couple of flea infested strays living in his garage and one of them had a litter of 7 kittens, all flea infested as well :th Took forever to get rid of the fleas.. and washing un-tamed cats isn't the best thing in the world to do  All of the kittens found homes and the strays eventually took off one day.

If you want i've got a couple of gray and orange tabbies if you want em' ;) One of my calicos looks like she's going to have a litter soon too sooo.. :gig

From time to time I feel deep gratitude that where we live now is not a dumping ground for the unwanted... They'd all have to stay, have vaccinations, be fed and socialized and then what?
We do not get strays either...
The hardest thing is being at the Vet's office for whatever and someone comes in with a stray or a road injured critter. The County does not have an animal shelter, the Vet has limited space. I want to bring all those poor things home with me.
Must exercise restraint, repeat as needed....

If there were a fast, easy, cheap way to test for all the myriad respiratory "crap" that goes around chicken flocks, I might have considered taking them.

If I thought the lady was likely to dump them off in the country somewhere if I didn't take them, I may have been persuaded to bring them home, but I would butcher them immediately. At least that way I know they had a swift, humane end.

I can't believe someone would try to pawn off chickens in a parking lot like that!

Since they were on site unfortunately they may of ended up left right there if she didn't find any takers.
