Hi everyone! My girls and I just started incubating chicken eggs last night for the first time ever. Please pray for a high hatch rate!! Any thoughts or suggestions are welcome. Here is what is in the incubator: (2) Black Copper Maran, (2) Silver Spangled Hamberg, (2) White Emporansea, (2) Buff Orpington, (2) Blue Orpington, (2) Golden Lakenvelder, (2) Silver Lakenvelder. So 14 total. We are excited, but I have also explained the whole "don't count your chickens before they hatch" saying. :-) If you can tell me how to post pics on here I will glad keep you updated with pics as well.

Oh thank you! We will be taking plenty of pics to show our progress. Hopefully this will be a successful hatch. I have read everything I can get my hands on to avoid as many mistakes as possible.

Thanks....I just put them in last night....so almost 24 hours. They were shipped to me, so I am a little nervous. I have heard good and bad results with shipped eggs. I am hoping to have a positive hatching experience with the girls instead of tragic. My 9 year old daughter will mourn each lost egg....and for a LONG time. :-) She is a sweetie. So please pray for lots of sweet babies!!

What are the biggest mistakes made by first timers? Any secrets?

Nah. They will be all over the babies and forget about the ones that didn't hatch. I had 2 eggs that didn't hatch. I have a 9 year old and 6 year old and they were so focused on the babies, they didn't give a thought other than what happened to them. I told them they died in the shell. (full term but never pipped the air sac) and that was the end of it.
