Small businesses close because we don't use them. We want to save $ w/ big box stores and now those guys own us.
Unfortunately, where I live, many of the small business owners put forth so much effort showing everyone how scared they are of covid, shutting their doors, adopting web ordering and curbside systems that didn’t work, treating every customer like they have the plague, severely limiting their hours etc, people turned to
amazon and big box stores. Then those same small businesses who towed the line of fear for all the politicians, found out they couldn’t afford the ventilation upgrades, the plexiglass, employees just to clean and re clean, and the government gave them nothing, but continued rewarding those who didn’t want to work at all under the excuse of fear. So they went under, or they’re being overcharged by suppliers who are trying to make up the losses they stack up supplying the big boxes, and in turn pass those extra charges on to us. My local feed store now costs more for lower quality feed, and I have to drive 25 minutes each way. Chewy ships it to my door for less overall cost. I’d love to support the feed store, but I got bugs in my feed, the bottom feed in a bag was soaked, and they offered no refund or credit, if I get bad feed from chewy, they send new feed for free, and tell me to throw the old stuff away. I wouldn’t even know where to get half the things I can get at Home Depot any more, except at Lowe’s or
amazon.
