How old can ducklings and chicks be when you can take the light. I got the lamp as high as it gose away and their still panting.

Once their feathers grow in, there is no need for a heat lamp. How old are they?

The ducklings don't have feathers yet but the chicks do except on the head but you can see features starting to grow.

You could switch to a regular 40 watt bulb and take away the heat bulb.
I always have several watage bulbs to start with and end with the lowest wattage, when they dont need heat, just light for comfort.

If panting they don't need heat anymore..Not enough air flow possibly in that small Brooder.

In most areas it's plenty warm enough that you can remove heat early. I took my chicks off heat at 4 weeks but the temps were cooler then, in the 70s.
