I think people misuse the eye for an eye quote. Jesus said “Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth: / But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.”

To me, he's saying it's wrong. I know it's much harder when you or your loved one is the victim, but God also claims vengance as His own.

It indeed does work. Im pro-death penalty. I wish it was just $100s of thousands to keep death row imnates, but I believe its millions. They do need to speed up the process, tho.

Why does religion come up with the death penalty? Christians have a variety of opinions on this subject but the New Testament doesn't really give an opinion on how governments should be run. Part of the reason that the Old Testament is different then the New is because God was telling an ancient society how to govern itself. In the New Testament, Jesus was telling us how to live a moral life. The New Testament's focus is different.

I am torn about the death penalty. On one hand, all life is precious. We are all made in the image of God. That is why killing another human is such a horrendous act. Yet, it is difficult not to emotionally want to end the life of those who torture their innocent victims. There is also the fear that some idiot will release a killer because of overcrowding.

I see both sides of the debate as valid.

I don't have a problem with the Taliban's manner of controlling their own country-if they had one. My problem with the Taliban is that they want every country to look just like theirs and they are not above using violent methods to achieve their goals.

My hubby is a veteran also.

just reading some of your posts.
over in th UK, we abolished the death penalty (i think it still stands though if someone hurts the queen) anyways, i believe in the death penalty aslong as its 100% certain that person caused the crime.
why should tax payers have to pay to keep people alive when they think its right to take another?
the prisons over here are more like hotels. i worked with a girl who smashed a glass into another girls face, she now has a disfigured face & finds it hard to get on with life knowing that she looks different.
the girl who done it got 6mths in a dentention centre (i think you can it juvinille hall in the states?). she gets paid to clean the floor, if she works in the kitchen or cleaned the gardens. gets a tv in her room, a telephone she can use anytime she wants FREE, she can even rent a games console if she wants.
To me, (and this is just my opinion), this is not justice. ok, this does not warrant the death penalty but my point is, if the punishment is tough enough, it should deter the people who commit the crimes..

I know people are very against this, please do not take this to heart as this is mine & only mine opinion. i do not want to stire any arguments or slam our justice system as sometimes it works.

thanks
