Jay flew to find some of his owl friends. "Screeeech!" He called to them, and he heard them call back. He flew in the direction the response had come from, his wings gliding gracefully on the wind as he spotted them and pulled up to a halt. They were all perching on a large oak tree branch. There were three; a large, light-cream colored Barn Owl named Gilfordis, a Sooty Owl named Oliver, and a Long-Eared Owl named Lucifer.
"Hello there, Jay! Care to join us? We're hunting for breakfast and bringing some extra food to the hospital nest for some of the patients there." Oliver said, grinning.
"No thanks, Oliver. But I was wondering if you guys were going on the night flight tonight?" Jay cooed.
"Ah, yes, we are indeed." Said Lucifer in his deep, wise voice.
"We wouldn't miss it for the world!" Gilfordis chimed in.
"Alright, that's great! I will be there too, along with Tylisia." He smiled.
"Tylisia? You mean that female Barn Owl you met last week that beat you in a hunting competition?" Oliver teased.
"I told you, it was a tie!" Jay said defensively yet amusingly.
"Well, we shall see next week, when we're there to keep score." Lucifer said.
"Anyone wanna place bets on who will win?" Gilfordis said.
"Sorry Jay, but my bet's on Tylisia winning." Oliver chuckled.
"Mine too." Gilfordis said.
"Mine is, as well." Lucifer added.
"Well, we will see!" Jay laughed, then leaped into the air and began to fly away. "See you guys tonight!" He called back, then flew back in the direction of Tylisia's tree hollow.

"Peeppeeppeeppeeppeeppeeppeep!" Sabio hopped around. Her stomach growled. Why is my stomach a monster?

Jay spent the whole day visiting Tylisia and catching food for her. He insisted that while she could catch her own food, she should rest and he would catch food for her. Tylisia was very grateful for his generousity and kindness.
"My three friends, Oliver, Gilfordis, and Lucifer, say that they will be able to join us on the night flight tonight." Jay said to Tylisia as he brought her another mouse. She gulped down the mouse and said, "It's going to be so fun! I can't wait to be able to fly with the moon's light shining down on me again." She sighed and pictured herself gliding across the night sky, with Jay and several other owls flying nearby, catching prey and enjoying the return of the moon.

Sabio found a nest bug and looked at it. Gross! I'm not eating that. She hopped around until she found a centipede. She swallowed it, enjoying feeling it's legs tickle her throat.

No one's here! Help! I'm scared! Sabio thought, but it came out as, "SCREEEEEEEEEEEE! SCREEEEEEEEEEEE!"

Jay sat tentatively on a small pine tree branch, his eyes carefully skimming the landscape before him. Then, he suddenly saw a tiny flicker of brown fur on the ground. Silently he glided down to the unknowing mouse below, his wings beating quickly yet noiselessly. As he approached the foraging mouse, he thrust his claws forward, spread them, and grabbed the mouse. With his beak, he expertly bit the back of the mouse's neck, instantly and painlessly killing it. With his talons wrapped securely around it, he flew upward. This mouse would be for dinner, but not his. He flew back to Tylisia's tree hollow, where she awaited patiently.
"Here you go, I caught a mouse just now for your dinner." Jay said as he landed at the entrance of the tree hollow.
"Thank you," Tylisia smiled warmly at him. "But really, I can get my own food. You don't need to go out of your way to catch it for me." She assured him, not wanting to seem helpless.
"Well, you'll be able to catch your own prey tonight. And I've had plenty to eat all day, and there's nothing else for me to do...So catching food for you gives me something fun to do," He said, then added, "And it's what owl pairs do for each other. They take care of each other when one cannot do it themselves for the time being...But for now, I need to be off to see what's going on at the center tree. I'll be back tonight, at sunset, so we can go to the center tree and meet up with everyone else to go on the night flight." And he took off out the tree hollow entrance.
Owl pairs. The words rang in Tylisia's mind, and her gizzard had a funny tickling feeling that she didn't quite understand. She smiled to herself, and ate the mouse her new owl mate had brang her.
