The Scenic Flint Hills of Kansas
Here at Spring Creek Peafowl, we tried the Full Plume Feathering Feed from Kalmbach on a select number of our special breeders. The feed was given from the end of the laying season when the molt begins until the end of the year. We do not normally give our peacocks more than 1.5% calcium but for our evaluation, we had no choice, this feed has 4.5% calcium. Giving peacocks more than 1.5% is not recommended as it can be hard on their kidney. However, the visual results on some of the cocks were stunning!

We have tried some color enhancing feeds in the past with no effect but that is probably because the color is not on the feather but rather it is the composition if the feather that allows it to reflect the light spectrum. Healthy feathers create healthy colors.

This bird in particular is a mid range Spalding Black Shoulder and had good color already as shown in pics from 2022. We follow those pics with the updated pics from after feeding Kalmbach for one molting. Our normal feed is made at a local mill using the Purina Gamebird Starter Breeder with additional yeast and Bio-mos for improving gut health. It is a 28% whereas the Kalmbach is a 20%. Next year I plan to try the Masuri feed.

Yes, here you go.
I compared it to Nutrena Feather Fixer. Pretty much the same amino acids. Genetically you have a beautiful peafowl.

Thank you. We are trying to evolve from a producer of common mutation birds to a program for developing enhanced patterns and colors. We currently have four projects involving three patterns and one color that have either not been seen before or have faded away and we are now restoring as well as importing new colors from Europe. The Ultra Marine and European Violet we brought in last year and now have a limited number of offspring we are offering to the public.

The last line in the list of ingredients you shared reads 'For an accurate list of ingredients and guaranteed analysis in your region, please refer to the label affixed to the feed product.' which is very telling. People do not realize that there is not one production plant that makes all of the feed for that major brand name. Instead, the big names rely on small local mills to make their products under license. They do this to save on shipping costs so the local mills will use the standard recipe but the ingredients will vary from source to source.

Unfortunately, peafowl are not popular enough for any of them to make a specific feed to meet all of their nutritional needs so we have to make due with what is available, mostly geared for pheasants, quail, and other gamebirds.
