Kalmbach Henhouse Reserve?

I feed Chickhouse Reserve rather than Henhouse, as my girls just never did grow to like the Henhouse. I combine it with Kalmbach 20% Flock Maker to boost the overall protein, moistening and/or fermenting it. Since they're not on designated layer feed, I provide flaked oyster shell on the side and feed them back their eggshells.
Can I ask why you moisten it? TY

Sure! Unlike the home mixes that many make, the Kalmbach Reserve mixes is mostly grain, peas, some corn and so forth, but they also have “bits”, presumably containing the trace vitamins, minerals, probiotics etc that can be difficult to provide unless chickens have generous access to living forage. (I do “yard range” them, but it’s a very small yard.)

Chickens, being suspicious of nearly everything (except styrofoam, I suppose) frequently ignore these “bits” in favor of the actual grains and all. Moistening them into a stiff porridge consistency makes it difficult for chickens to avoid them, and they are eaten, reducing waste.

I originally started out fermenting them, which increases bioavailability of some of the nutrients, but it got away from me once the weather grew hot, and they became distinctly beery and sour. I might start fermenting again in the cold weather.

How do you use Henhouse Reserve? Main feed? Scratch? Treat?
We use Kalmbach's Flock Maker (a 20% protein all-flock) for all chickens.

We use Kalmbach's Henhouse Reserve for their scratch.

When I'm in the mood to ferment, I ferment half a jar of HHR, 1/4 whole oats, 1/4 hard red winter wheat, a sprinkle of Chia and flax seeds. That takes three days to ferment and adds prebiotics, probiotics, and enhances the vitamins and minerals. This is NOT fed as their food for the day, but more like a treat.

X2 on the Kalmbach flock maker. I can buy it locally for a bit less than $20.00 a bag.

Feed doesn't affect laying, they may be going into their winter break.
Henhouse Reserve , & Walmart has it + their house brand which is from my research is made by Kalmbach ( Healthy Harvest ) I think ,green bag ,, I buy the layer crumbles of that , keep 1 cup Henhouse Reserve & 1 cup crumbles in front of my 3 game hens - 1 hen hatched 13/15 Thanksgiving day , the other 2 hens are laying everyday - I wish they'd take break . 😆

I'm confused, What are you referring to?

Hi all-
My local feed store stopped carrying the feed I'd been feeding my girls (the Du-Mor 16% crumbles) and I bought some local-ish mill's pellets. The woman at the feed store said their chickens love it. My four laying girls almost immediately stopped laying. I went from 3-4 eggs per day down to 1-2. I'm considering going with the Kalmbach Henhouse Reserve because I'd heard lots of good things about it, but I thought I'd check in here first. Do you all like it? Will it get my (fairly newly minted) layers back to laying?
My flock loves this stuff, especially the sunflower seeds in it. I really like the Kalmbach brand.

I never knew Healthy Harvest was made by Kalmbach so I learned something new today!

I'd love to get it local at Walmart, as we have to order Kalmbach's from Chewy.

I wouldn't switch to it though, as their all-flock is only 16%. Their chick starter sounds fine as is at 20%, but we give the chicks Kalmbach's Flock Maker, and that's 20%.
