Karma -- Thoughts?

Oh yes. I do believe in it, whatever you want to call it. Karma, reaping what you sow, paybacks a you-know-what, what comes around goes around, getting a taste of your own medicine, etc. I see evidence of it happening all the time, and it makes me try to be the best person I can be.

When you scratch the worlds religions there are basic themes and the idea of reaping what you sow is in all of them. It wears different dresses but she still sings the same song.

Right up there also is do unto others. This is where I get upset at so many religious people who use religion to hate others.

Have read the bible. I am with ON (as always!) that reading the bible cover to cover was what killed christianty for me. But, I also read the Qran, the Torah and many many books on Hinduism and Buddhism etc etc etc Some of them make me laugh out loud. Each and every one has some tenet of belie;f some piece that is in there, but that many people do not actually believe, that makes you laugh out if you hear it. So the minute people are cherry picking they need to acknowledge that they're cherry picking! The risen jesus lives on the planet Kolob, anyone?

So I live a spiritual life. We are self aware creatures. We are capable of empathy and if just getting by or collecting prizes is all it is about then I want out. So I choose to believe in a kind of karma. I believe we rejoin the universal unconscious and return until we learn all we need to know. I don't know if I think I have to pay for past sins or if misery is just one way of learning.....

You could always check out one of the branches of Luciferianism - they are trying to reconcile god and lucifer by repenting on lucifers behalf and doing good works in his name. As with all religions that is a supremely oversimplified version of what they believe, but it is karmic in its essence.

Boyd, your avatar is dark and not a little scary, but your aura is not

You'd have to PM me with more on why you think your karma is dark...... We are ALL capable of evil, the only difference is whether or not we act on it.

I have WHAT in my yard? :

I'm an atheist, I have zero faith. I don't believe in any form of higher power, no afterlife, no judgement, nothing supernatural at all.
I do think what comes around goes around, but I do not place the credit to any other being other than ourselves. I believe we are subconsciously attracted to the realities we project. and I believe that we have a way of interpreting good/bad actions on our own terms as a way to make sense of the balancing act, when in fact there really isn't much of one beyond a physical cause/effect relationship. and I think that comes from the kindness of our hearts, we want things to be fair, we want to see wrongdoers suffer negative consequences and those who act morally to be rewarded. but I don't believe this scenario plays out anywhere but in everday life in the dynamics of human relationships.
an example, those of faith might think a child abuser deserves a special seat in hell. as a nonbeliever, I think the abuser's punishment is that he/she does not thoroughly cherish the brilliant light of joy that comes with a child's innocent nature and fresh view on life(as well as the emotional despair that causes a person to abuse)

hope at least some of that makes sense. I just wanted to give a view that does not involve supernatural entities of any kind.

thanks for listening(reading)

I'm not sure how to articulate what I want to say but I'll give it a shot.

From a scientific view point, matter is energy and energy returns to the source. Just as, in most religions 'good' acts return you to 'heaven'. I think that is what the writer's of the Bible were trying to tell humans when the Bible was written.

Imagine, if you will, yourself trying to explain a microwave oven to Moses. Moses would have no form or reference on which to base his understanding in the time that he was alive; it would not be possible without extreme faith on the part of Moses. I believe that the Bible was written in a way so that the people of the day could understand in terms with which they were familiar, what the 'ultimate energy source' was all about.

I think the Bible and karma are about reminding us to think and act in a way that when our 'energy' is ready, we will return to God, the Source...

Real evil or perceived evil???

If I am to go on what you have written here on BYC (that's all I have), you have done a lot of good as well as your "evil" UNLESS.......... you are a total compulsive liar and none of it is true................

.. Some can see quite a bit from words or images.. and not necessarily from what the words have to say... It is different than that hard to describe or explain, only something that can be felt by those that have the sense...
