Good morning IHWIMY...
..... With the days darkening and the advent of the fall solstice, I am feeling particularly energized.. I love the approaching season...(Yes Halloween is my favorite holiday.. A party on the spirit plane it is..!). Fall is also when the the new year begins for me. (Yes I am with the Jewish on this one).. Fall is a time for death and harvest an end of the past year. Yet it is a beginning of the next year. A time for life that is going to continue to put effort forth and prepare for what lies ahead, a time for seeds to ripen and sow... a time for conception,,,, to begin the regeneration process in the cycle of life...

Be well everyone!

Hi everyone!

I agree, I loved the Pagan thread! Tons of fun and AWESOME vibes!

Hope you all are having a good day!

I was actually reading all the religious/non-religious threads, and I miss them. It seemed there were a few people who couldn't be polite, and they spoiled it for the rest. I know that both the non-religious and Christian threads got very contentious.

Maybe all the pagans just know how to mind their manners better.

Ya ya thats it///

... Pagans are such a diverse group.. thousands if not millions of different details to beliefs.. Maybe that make us not contend different opinions so much.....

I do recall the non religious thread being very very contentious at times.(I do believe I participated in some of that contentious behavior myself....)

. I do admit to following the Religious/Christian thread just to see what was up in that camp.. You thought it got contentious? I guess I did not follow that close, or just do not comprehend the issues debated...

Maybe time just ices the cake for me///

I think it's fair that moderators step in when they feel too much bandwidth is devoted to off topic issues, or that the issues are getting too hot. This is, after all, a chicken board. And advertisers and other revenues that pay for the board are from chicken related companies, so I can see a point where topics can be directed.

too true, but random ramblings is an area of this chicken board to discuss quite a number of different things

It's just the topics that get folks all riled up that seem to be the ones that cause trouble.

Yes, but check out the amount of bandwidth random ramblings absorbs. Sometimes limits have to be put. On most 'subject oriented' websites, there are far more posts on the social, non-topical areas than on the subject matter areas.

And then there is subject matter of the off-subject posts! Certain topics - politics, religion, are very, very contentious. I can understand if sometimes the mods step in. For example I learned long ago not to discuss either of those subjects at work. It creates hard feelings, anger and non-cooperation. But people can get awful riled up on any subject. We can think of some pet subjects, such as child rearing, rights of a dog owner, and a huge one - justice and crime, which get people incredibly riled up.

Some folks are just awful sensitive. A joking phrase has often offended someone who draws a very low water line on jokes on certain topics, for example. And everyone - EVERYONE finds different things offensive. OFten a writer has no idea he has even offended some special interest group. Often it's the person who simply tells the truth who causes the conflagration, because the majority don't want to hear the truth and have a distorted idea of the truth they want to hang onto.

For example, right/left brained thinking simply does not exist. It's an urban legend. Virtually every thought process recruits multiple areas of the brain - on both sides of the brain. One side is not used for creative thought and one side is not used for analytical thought - not to any degree. Not in any way, shape or form. It's merely an idea people have seized up and are comforted by and enjoy the simplicity of. It is a fabrication. If someone said that out loud, it might bring the house down.

If even just one person becomes 'highly offended' and threatens he will lawyer up at a moment's notice, this has intimidated web site moderators too.

The situation isn't getting less complex, either. It's getting more complex. Even though the cases where people have been successfully prosecuted or sued for their statements on blogs and websites are the most extreme, it has made some mods very cautious.

At first I thought.. Good point Welsummerchicks! Indeed bandwidth costs money, and yes advertisers are the ones who pay for it!

However, I do not believe it has anything to do with why a thread was shut down. (Heck the mods them selves start threads in game and jokes, just to see who can post the most times..) So the band width argument does not hold for me..

I think it is just bad Karma...
