Karma -- Thoughts?

I believe in it to an extent.

And by that I mean; I always get my Karma but the people I think deserve it (my "dad"), do not.

A little fun fact for all of you who are disgusted about how "bad guys" apparently get away with their evil, while good people suffer. The feeling ain't new; King David agonized over it in many of his Psalms. However, to paraphrase quite a few Bible verses, the bad guys will get it. Probably in this life, definitely in the next. As for good people suffering, read the Book of Job. Job was the holiest man alive at that time; yet he also suffered more than anyone else.

Heck, Jesus is the Son of God, completely holy, and he died the most agonizing death humans have been twisted enough to invent.

So, yeah, justice doesn't always get served in this life. It will in the end, though.

From your description, I think you are looking at atonement rather than Karma. Atonement is making amends for the wrongs we might have done; or changing our behaviour to make things right. In this case, you do it for yourself. Karma is more the idea that the wrongs or rights of the past will be revisited on you. You can try to make more rights bounce back on you by changing behaviour, but the wrongs will still come back to you. I think of karma in terms of Newton's "equal and opposite reaction", except that negative rebounds as negative, and positive as positive.

I still think that the highest moral choice is doing good simply for itself and the rewards it gives to you by making you a better person.

Karma was named and described in Hinduism but the concept pre-dates it. I don't think there is absolute atonement for me

Yes, there is. Do a read through of the four Gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. You'll be better off for it.

there is a tv show called my name is earl and its about a guy that has done alot of bad things in his life. one day he gets a scratch card and he wins 100.000$. he runs out in the street screaming, and then an old lady runs over him in her car. the 100,000$ scratch card flies away. while he is in the hospital,he watches a show about this guy talking about karma. earl makes a list and tries to make up for every single bad thing he has done. while he is cleaning up trash to make up for littering, he finds the 100,000 dollar card he lost.
