Kat’s Journey into Chicken Keeping

I love baby pictures! Sorry about the loss of 2 of them.
My daughter & daughter in law are both nurses. I love our nurses...you are all awesome! 💞
We were planning on visiting Myrtle beach this winter, before Covid hit, hopefully we will eventually be able to get there!
Yeah, Covid put the kibosh on my travel plans too. :(:(

So back to my chicken story...
It was the end of May and I had four baby chicks brooding in a cardboard box in my spare bedroom.

It wasn’t long, not even two weeks, until THIS happened. Baby Leghorn began flying out of the brooder.

It was time to get stepping on the coop and run.
so we made a trip to Home Depot, and came home with building supplies.

We put together a 5ft x 6ft shed and screwed it into the wooden platform. Then we framed out the walls of the run.
The fun part was putting up the hardware cloth. Ugh!
I actually took about a million pictures but you don’t want to see all those.
As you can see In the last picture, my husband had a lot of help.
The building project went pretty well.

So I had two 2-week old chicks, two 1-week old chicks, and then THIS happened...

Can you believe it? A guy not far from us was selling Muscovy ducklings on Craig’s List!
We had four 1-year old Muscovy ducks already, and I had been wanting to add to our flock. So I came home with six fluffy-butts.

So four chicks and six ducklings. They soon outgrew their cardboard box brooders, and we graduated them to two large dog crates on our deck. It was warm outside by now, but I still put their heat lamps on at night.

We put a rush on finishing our coop. (This was our temporary roof. We have a metal roof on now.)

So the ducklings and chicks were finally in their own home.

Wow...I love the pictures & the chicken lounge looks fantastic! I love baby ducks, I think I would be in big trouble if I brought any home...😁

Ducklings are adorable, but let me tell you, they are MESSY!
I’ll be posting more on the ducklings. I have lots of pics of them.

I went to the feed store many years ago with my youngest son and without my husband! To make a long story short, we came home with 4 baby geese, they were so cute...I know about messy waterfowl, mega mess everywhere...:gig!
I can't wait to see pictures of your ducks!💞

All of your little babies are so adorable! They're just so sweet when they're still in the fluff ball stage! :love
They are. I have to remind myself whenever I walk in to TSC and they have bins of tiny fluff balls, that they don’t stay that little, fuzzy, and sweet. Lol.

And they ARE the three stooges for sure!
And I should include our littlest “boxer“ (he thinks he is), Tobias, also known as Kitten Little.
