I don't watch the show mainly because I can't stand that woman. I always want to reach through the tv and slap her when I see her, she makes me ill.

It seems though that the newest fashion trend for the rich and famous is to buy chickens. My mom told me that Tory Spelling and her husband got chickens too, and someone said the Kardashians did too? It's just publicity to them, and I feel bad for the chickens, and also for those kids when Kate realizes it's not as easy as she thinks taking care of them. She is so picky about cleanliness, what's going to happen the second one poops on one of the kids? She's going to nuts! I just shake my head at ignorant people. Wouldn't it be funny though if she DID show up here on BYC? I doubt any of us would know it though.

I think with all those kids she sorta has to be that way. Controlling. You have to be organized with all those little ones. She's a good person. She may get a bit on my nerves sometimes. I think the nagging drove her husband away. Imagine going from 0 kids to 2 kids to 8 kids. They were still young for that many kids. I think their both good people. Good people make bad decisions sometimes too. Being on the tv show made her realize she could just have their everyday life filmed and make money and after the show pretty much ended I think she tried to find ways to support her lifestyle (writing a book). I think it would be cool to help her out and give her a bit of knowlege on chicken raising.

Mennonite & Amish are not exempt from farming guide lines as far as selling is concerned - same rules apply to them as they do for us. That's a whole other show on a whole other channel

She had Horizon structures put the coop up - they are a "local" shed / barn/ coop builder around here. They don't have anything any different from other companies as far as coop design. Same old same old. They sold her what she probably thought was aesthetically pleasing, and didn't ask any questions. "They" (meaning any shed builder) never do... If you do get info on coop size vs. # of chickens the questions would most likely have been posed by the buyer. She just doesn't have a clue & doesn't seem like a real country person to me... It's annoying to think she didn't get anything bigger, but I'm sure there's a huge lack of knowledge there - not entirely her fault, but she should have done the research if she still knows how to lift a finger when not being filmed...

I can not believe that people would be so mean as some of these posts are portraying. Many of us started off on BYC because we didn't know anything about chickens ourselves. Think about it ... her children may get online and read these mean and hateful remarks. I think you should be ashamed of yourselves.

I think instead of ripping a chicken n00b to pieces, maybe some of you could write to her TV program with good sound advice that you might give someone who got over their head and posted here on BYC for guidance.

No one on this thread knew everything about chickens when they started out and we have all gotten over our heads and made mistakes.......right?........right?
