Katherine’s Flock ❤️

I’m starting a flock thread as an excuse to obsessively talk about my chickens, and share stories and pictures of them for everyone to enjoy! I have 7 chickens right now. Joy my Speckled Sussex, Bubbles and Jokgu my Barred Rocks, Opal and Jellybean my Easter Eggers, Indigo my Lavender Orpington, and Valentine my Wyandotte.

Here is Jokgu. She is a 2 year old Barred Rock who has beautiful barring and is a beautiful girl! She was named after Jokgu the piano playing chicken on America’s Got Talent, and though she is yet to acquire the talent herself, I still love her.

Here’s Joy. A three year old Speckled Sussex who sparked my love for chickens. This gal may try to steal your food but she will also steal your heart because she’s the sweetest chicken around. She loves people and treats me as a flock member. She survived EYP last year, and two years before she came to my porch and made me follow her back to the coop where she warned me about a predator who 9 of my girls. Joy has done a number of funny things too. She done things like stealing toast out of my mouth, trying to fly over the pool and getting a free swimming lesson in the process, and getting stuck in someone’s car.

Here’s Bubbles. Bubbles is also a two year old Barred Rock. Her worst habit is teaming up with Joy to steal my food! Despite this, I love my girl and I don’t know what I would do without her.

Here’s Jellybean. Or “The Bean”. She laid her first egg at 24 weeks old, and was the first out of the four pullets. Her eggs are a beautiful blue tint and have very strong shells. She is a gorgeous girl and has a wonderful beard and muff (or “boof”). She is also very curious and isnt

Here is Opal. This girl has so much personality I’m not sure how it all fits into one chicken! Not only is she beautiful, but she loves people. When I come to the coop to sit with them, Opal is right next to me... either eating my hair or pecking my phone while I’m on BYC! She is very curious and a few days ago I brought bubbles out to the coop to see how they would react. No one was interested, except for Opal who was fascinated. She chased the bubbles, and popped them, and watched them float. She had so much fun! I love watching her and she’s such a wonderful girl to have.

Here’s Valentine. She is a SLW who doesnt have great lacing. I don’t mind that much, because she lays me a beautiful brown egg every day. She was the second layer of the 4, and started at 30 weeks old. However, her comb was big and red at 18 weeks old and through the many weeks of waiting, I called her Liar Liar Comb On Fire!

Indigo is my Orpington. She’s a fantastic girl to have. She’s very sweet but reserved. I have doubts she’ll be laying any time soon, but I think it’ll be alright. This gorgeous girl is very friendly and comes running when she hears me throwing scratch!
