I’m building a hoop coop this summer and using it as a layer coop. I plan to use it all winter long.

I meant one on grass that moves like the tractor but has no nesting boxes or floor so it doesn't have to be cleaned. Like a portable greenhouse.

Good points. So I think I'll hatch and keep for as long as I possibly can this summer before I run out of room or my parents get pissed. Whichever comes first. I'm only keeping the very best new cockerel of each variety and no more than 8 new good quality pullets.

Always keep a back up cockerel/cock you never know when you might need him.

Out of the first 5 Orpington Bantam chicks I hatched in March, 4 of them are cockerels.
