Keep your chickens cooler for $10

I found a 6 nozzle 1/4" mister line For 18 bucks, that I have it attached to a short length of hose and a timer. The line is held in place at the end of the run to help cool things down. The girls think it's obnoxious, but I don't hear any complaints once the cycle ends and they resume their scratching in the wet sand. The moist sand also promotes sprouting of boss and scratch grains which the girls work hard to uncover.

I have one of the home depot things also - worked great until I realized that the only way the hose could get there from my hose bib was across a long stretch of hot asphalt. With the slow 'mist' it was putting out, my girls were getting misted with boiling hot water! eep! It's not the mister's fault, but I haven't used it since.

Chuckzoo- I recently posted a topic in the forum- I live in Florida (hot and humid) and need ideas for coop/run/ open air!

I like your coop shown with mister and would LOVE to see more pictures of the design. I looked at your BYC page and it doesn't appear to be the same coop. Am I wrong? Do you have all sand- please tell me about yours

I have two of them. The misters pug up quickly in our water. I have tried rotating the misters from vinegar soaks to a unit but even after soaking, misters often are not working properly. Purchased the Ocean Breeze and no problems...misters clean up and work everytime after a vinegar soak for a couple of hours.

We know it is our water but a heads up when things don't work as well as expected for as long as desired.

Yes! I have the same issue. The other problem was that my chickens were avoiding the misted area, sort of defeating the whole purpose of the thing. So now instead I go out every hour in the afternoon and hose down the area inside the tractor, plus wet down the shade tarps on top of the tractor. Then I have a small fan blowing over a jug of ice, and I bring out cold treats. With all these steps, my flock is managing ok, but I'm a sweaty mess by the end of the day. I can't wait for fall!

Thank you so much! I think it adds a little interest to the run and the chickens seem enjoy it.

I absolutely love landscaping design and wish I could do that full time.

I've had those too .. It takes very little water pressure to keep them going ..

Warning: Too much water pressure will blow out the head and flood your run ...

And, as stated before .. if your hose is in hot sunshine, the water in the mist will be hot ..

Otherwise, it's fun.. for chickens or humans...

I have been trying to add my new coop addition and run(we added another coop section just like the first when they were old enough to lay) but for some reason I can't get it on my page.

We also annexed part (6') of the next door neighbors yard and put up a 7' fence. It is this area that has become my new run. The coop is still the same but the run is a new addition, and of course the coop is now on the side yard instead at the back of the garden/yard. I would have liked to have opened up the whole front of the run but that would make it too visible. I'm in a subdivision.

If someone can tell me how I add to mu existing page I will post more pictures.
