Keeping ducks drinking water clean......how?

I got an automatic waterer from wal mart, and it keeps the water pretty clean. Plus they can't push it over, and when they drink all of it, it refills clean fresh water!

Mine get fresh water in the AM when they are let out and I give them fresh water again mid-afternoon. I change their pool water every 2nd day as well and they drink out of there too. Someone once said if you wouldn't drink the water then your creatures shouldn't have to either. That might be fine for chickens, but they obviously never had ducks!

I dont think its the mucky coloured water u need to worry anout so much, its the fact it would go stagnant if the water is left.. maybe something like a pond filter )making sure that the filter has no grooves claws could get stuck in would help if your leaving the ducks without anybody looking after them

If drainage is not an issue, set up a very low flow of fresh water running constantly into the water source. It's been a few years (3 I think) since we've done a flock of ducks, but I set up a plastic "turtle" sandbox for ours with a hose running into it running just a thin little stream of water into the pool which had the effect of refreshing/replacing the pool's water 2-3 times each day. It really wasn't that much water and for our set up the run off was easy to deal with. I liked the low maintenance aspect. More time to enjoy the birds instead of working for them!
