Keeping Fish

I would love to get some fancy goldfish but with so many other irons in the fire.

I have also learned that sometimes fish will breed when least expected with no outside help.

I have so many comet goldfish it is insane! I can't give them away...but that may change come spring when I set up my plant business. I might give them away to people that have ponds and buy my bog plants.

I also have some pretty Koi I won't give away...or sell.

That is a good idea! I buy comets for our turtle, but she won't eat them. I think she named them.

Oldhen, are those a couple of koi I see? They are beautiful fish! I keep Goldies in a pond outside.

PoliticalCenter, I bought about thirty feeders for my turtle. She will eat anything, including feeder minnows and non-feeder fish, but not the goldfish. She swims with them and shares food with a couple like they are best friends. That same turtle almost bit my finger off!

When we lived up north we would catch baby turtles and keep them through the summer and release them in time to hibernate.

We fed them worms mostly.

Were they red-eared sliders, or wood turtles? Some species do not hibernate, but I believe these two do. We rescued some turtle eggs once and popped them into a bator. I let the humidity down too low and they dried out. Quite discouraging, as they were developing nicely.

One or two looked a little koi-like, but that's a compliment! They are all beauties. Perhaps it was in contrast to the fancy goldfish.

It's probably because they have the transparent scales as opposed to matte, as well as a normal wild tail that makes them look like Koi. Thank you.

Ugh. Just got back from the vet and gecko has little chance of survival. She is being medicated with critical care food, warm water, calcium, and antibiotics, which will continue for two weeks. If she hasn't improved by the time the medication period is over, we will have her euthanized. Please keep her in your thoughts.

I'm so sorry about your gecko ;(

I have made a fourm for bettas recently and it is called keeping bettas.

I really hope your gecko gets better soon!

Diana

I have treated her and given her food, as well as adding a small humidity box for her. She was given water, as she is malnourished and extremely dehydrated, and a warm bath. I will spritz her terrarium with water and keep her sponges wet. I have to force feed her, but tube feeding may become neccassary. I'll check out your thread Diana.

They were eastern painted turtles and what we call leather back turtles. We lived right on the edge of the water and would just catch them by hand. They are cute and pretty while they are small but get kinda ugly when they grow up. The eastern painter looks a lot like a red-eared sliders.

We lived on a channel and it was a kids paradise. All summer long they were catching frogs, fish and turtles....and other things.
