Keeping Fish

They were eastern painted turtles and what we call leather back turtles. We lived right on the edge of the water and would just catch them by hand. They are cute and pretty while they are small but get kinda ugly when they grow up. The eastern painter looks a lot like a red-eared sliders.

We lived on a channel and it was a kids paradise. All summer long they were catching frogs, fish and turtles....and other things.

My father grew up on the East Coast and would bring home all kinds of critters back from the swamps. He once brought two snapping turtles and left them in his mother's bath tub. He always told the best stories about his child hood. He was definitely not a model child. :)

I really hope your gecko gets better Leaf:-(
My fish are all doing okay so far, I won't treat them unless really necessary. I think I should add a bit of aquarium salt though, it would help bring down my nitrite problem. Then I'll do weekly water changes. After everything is stabilized I'll upgrade to more female bettas and maybe a bigger tank(I'm restyling my room so I'll have more space). My newbies will be called Jane and John Doe - noname
Turtles are cute^-^ Goldfish and koi are beautiful but I don't have space for them... my room is too tiny

The tank heaters on my 75 gallon pooped out, I suspected the smaller one wasn't working, but the bigger heater gave out before I looked into it, the temperature fell to 65 before I saw it, replaced the heaters, took all day to get back up to 78, one Angel fish and one golden barb have died since from the stress. Now I remember why I prefer goldfish.

Ugh. I'm so sorry. Hate it when things like this happen. I've lost many fish from my own carelessness when I didn't check temps, filters, etc.. Especially with my breeders... My Molly fry are pretty hardy, but my guppies never seem to be able to survive drops like this. I've been having a ton of fry disappearing from my breeder box... I am so done. :he

I gave up on live bearers, I can't keep them alive more than a few month, they apparently don't like my water conditions, I have always read how easy they are but not for me. You don't seem to be having any luck either with them. My goldfish are easy, calming and personable, plus they live a long time.

Actually, I've done okay with them. Been keeping them for about ten years now, and have been breeding my own for a long time. This last batch, purchased from a pet store, has had cannibalistic tendencies. They have been eating each other. Yep. I also keep goldfish, though outdoors.
