Keeping the neighbor's chickens out of my yard

Clearly discussing the problem with the neighbors is having no effect. You have gone the diplomatic route and its gotten nowhere. Time to call the animal control department.
I have chickens and for a time I let them free range, but after several attacks from predators, people deliberatly running them over in the street, AND complaints from the neighbors, I put up a nice enclosed area for them and no longer let them free range. They have plenty of room to run around and lots of feed at dinner time.

Don't call the cops, its not a police problem. Call your town or city hall and get code enforcement involved. After they repeatedly getting fined for breaking codes/ ordinances they will start to take action and containing their chickens.
On another note...I've had dogs eat chicken poop over and over even on daily basis and never had a dog become violently ill or even semi ill so your neighbors may think it's not possible your dog got $1000 worth of sickness from licking chicken poop.
My house pet has twice gotten into my chickens poop and got very ill twice. I think it's highly likely the dog got sick from the chickens, being fragile already.

Put up a fence ,work together and split the cost, Try not to let the situation escalate . Often times that's easier said than done. :idunno

The neighbors likely fall in One of these:

1. Don’t care

2. are unwilling OR unable to change the situation.

3. Feel that they are above the rules and free-range is the natural existence for chickens, irregardless of property lines.

for neighbor relations, I would avoid cops or reporting them Until last resort. This can make many a neighbor retaliate, and the retaliation is usually stepped up from what was originally done.

perhaps, catching one every few days in a cage (put dark blanket over it so chicken won’t make noise), and give to a friend that can take them or find out if the pound/humane society/rescue operation will take it. Maybe your neighbors will worry about predator attack. Your dog is too little to be blamed. This won’t work if the neighbor can see your yard or place you would have a trap.

How many chickens do the neighbors have? How many months or years have they had them?

Let me get this straight. Most, not all, but most everyone on this thread is telling OP to steal the neighbors chickens and give them away or kill them? Instead of calling the city or proper authorities to investigate? What if it was cats that were going into OPs yard? I'm all for killing cats that come into my yard but I know the reaction would be so different on here. There are proper avenues for OP to go down that does not require chicken napping or killing. OP, please don't resort to killing the chickens. Call the city and tell them your neighbors have chickens running loose. It is likely a ordinance violation and would result in at least a fine for your neighbors.

I..I'm sorry to interrupt the thread, but did you say people DELIBERATELY HITTING THEM WITH CARS?!?!?!?!?

If my neighbors cats were unwelcome, then told me that it was my problem?? Damn straight I’d dispose of a cat.
