It is my first time raising chickens. Whats the deal with my chicks filling the water tray with bedding material. Should I raise the water bottle off the bottom of container I am raising them in. Any help is appreciated.

That is exactly the right thought. Just raise the water up (I usually use a few bricks but whatever will work really) so that the water is more chest level than right on the ground. The other option, depending on your set up, would be to hang the waterer for the same result. Should help a ton.

Good luck and welcome to BYC!

The co-op here puts a plastic tray upside down in the brooder. The water is on top so there are no shavings right by it. The tray has holes that the chicks easily fit through so a scrap of cardboard on top also gives them a hideout from those scary humans always looking in from above.

I just use a nipple waterer, myself.

I've put a small wooden board and a brick under my waterer and there are still bedding pieces in it daily.
