I keep a small number of birds, so the loss of one is a big deal. Raccoons are my biggest problem, but I also contend with coyotes; foxes; loose and wild dogs; and hawks. After losing a few of my precious babies, I built the pen from HELL. Using chicken-wire-covered cattle panels (48 X 96) I completely secured my layers: floor, roof, and all-four sides. One of the panels became my door. The only thing small enough to enter are rats/mice, snakes (of course), and sparrows. This is an EXPENSIVE solution. Cattle panel, chicken wire, and pounds upon pounds of hog clips (to hold chicken wire to panel) are not cheap. I will never, never recover my investment, but at least my chickens are safe. Hello chicken lovers; I'm Fred Zimmerman and that's muh' story an' I'm stickin' to it.

Hello and welcome to BYC - thanks for joining us.

This is a useful link of BYC guides to take a look at announcements-feedback-issues-guides.3 I’d suggest including your location using the guide in that link. You can use this link to contact members in your area - Find your State's thread.

Hello, Fred, and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
I hope you don't suffer any further losses.
I'll be spending quite a lot on my next coop and run. However I consider that expense as part of my entertainment budget and when you look at it that way, it's pretty "cheep"!
