I have been robbed. I'm going to file a police report tomorrow to CMA, but over the course of the summer, someone has lightened my coops of around 36 black and blue wyandottes. I need the help of you all. If you go to a swap, let me know if anyone is selling breeder quality black or blue wyandotte cockerels or pullets. Every bird should be under a year old and have a rose comb. Since last weekend, 11 more black juveniles have disappeared. I've checked on craigslist but have the feeling the thief will try to sell them at a swap. I also have a person of interest. A teenager who showed up uninvited at my farm asking for birds. I sent him away since I know he has pit game birds. Keep an eye out for me!!

SSS...I think that applies to people in this case too. How low do people have to stoop? It's not like chickens are selling for much these days. There's a show/sale in Frankfort next weekend, you'd probably better check there.

I would definitely check out the Frankfort show. Easy spot to just drive in and sell your birds. Can't believe someone would steal chickens. No chance of it being a predator like a snake who would swallow it whole......but too many missing at once for that I guess. Good luck, hope you find out who did it.

I'll be at the Frankfort show/swap anyways. I was worried about the Sadieville and Paris ones especially. The ones that typically might not have a set up fee. I did see the boy at Milton last summer, so I know he travels. He's was trying to sell a mangy pit roo for $50. I'll be scrounging the smaller county swaps the rest of the season, now.

Depends. the first night There was very little trace. found feather mowing hay a month later several hundred yards away. The second time they got ballsy and there were feathers all over the yard. The second time was the messiest. They couldn't get my 16# meat birds through the fence. I had several half chickens left. they could take younger birds drag them off and you may never find out what happened.

We're buttoned up pretty tight. Restrung the flight netting last weekend. No gaps or holes in that right now. Plus, we keep a live trap set every night outside the run. We put the leftover cans of cat food in it. If a racoon gets in the coop/run anyways, it usually can't get back out again very easily. We going to put latches and locks on the run doors. That way if it's a human predator, he's going to have to have wire cutters to get through the fencing. It's just the wyandottes who are missing. Not a single one of the EEs or Golden Comets who are in the same coop right now for the winter. That's what makes me think that it's not a random critter.
