Good luck, and let me know how it works for you. I put the tarps up in the lower coop just now - it helped so much!! I'm glad you gave me the idea.
Well, I candled again today (last time, really,
) I said I was doen candling, but I wanted to check one more time - and I found soem eggs I thought were no good to be looking like they are right up with the good ones!! As of right now the count is 32 positively good eggs (that I can tell) and the rest I am not sure of, but they don't stink, so they stay.
8 of the 32 are standard size cochins, the rest are mostly Shelley's eggs I got from her, and a few of my own eggs from my hens. I had almost 2 dozen of Shelleys, and I've tossed out two of them for blood rings. The third blood ring was a cochin egg.
I am a little more hopful today after candling this last time. Still nervous, but more hopeful.
Oh, and so far no other sick birds - I hope the illness is gone. I am even feeling hopeful that it was just some weird bug that got those two and that it won't totally affect the flock (as carriers) I guess I'll see when I let more chickens join (of the hatched ones I'll have) and see if they get sick or not. I'm still not bringing in any new strange chickens, unless I know the source for sure, though. Too much of a risk.
I know it is early to hope for it being gone, but hey, I need a break.
So, one Q - once I stop turning, how high should the humidity be again?
meri
