I feel you! I am trying not to spend too much money doing this. But I have looked for ornamental young hens (or chicks) for 2 years without any luck. I promised my daughter and just can't seem to get my hands on any.I sent an email to a place in E-town I found online that has silkies but haven't heard back, and called another in Hart County that was on Craigslist advertising Polish and Silkies just this morning. I saw the Meade County (which is very close to me) ad with straight runs, I think. Problem is, I just can't handle another roo. If neither of these pan out, I am tempted to purchase the minimum of 15 from a hatchery and then trying to sell most of them.

Just got word back from the silkie guy in E-town, no luck! And the Hart Co. Polish lady called and she just sells them straight run. :(

Well I went to TSC this morning and they had several breeds, including silkies! I picked up 6 and handpicked the whitest from the bunch. I don't know why...it just stood out. Lucky for the bird, I guess, because she had pasty butt I had to clean. My first silkies...I'm so happy!

April 1 the minimum goes down to 3 at Meyer Hatchery, but I'm pretty sure they only do straight run with bantam breeds as well.

The folks in hart county are out of them so she said. Thats where I was trying to get mine.

Yeah, I looked at several that only sell them that way. my daughter may just have to do without :).
Aww! I'll keep looking for a hen for her too. Where r y'all, so I will know what's close? Are you in any of the poultry groups on FB? I know there are some about 1 1/2 hrs northeast of Louisville. Don't remember where for sure. They are adults already, so they know the sex. She has some pet quality, show quality, & breeder quality. Prices very depending on their quality.
