What's the going rate for fresh eggs in our area? Seems like other threads say anywhere from $2-$6 for a dozen... Just curious, as we aren't quite to the egg laying stage yet.

I'm in Louisville Ky, and recently lost my white Silkie Hen. We kept her in the house because she had some deformities and couldn't walk very much. We took her to the vet and I did therapy with her but after a year I lost her. I'm trying to find another silkie hen, but haven't found anyone that is selling anything other then straight run babies. Any help would be great

I personally haven't had good luck with buying from farm stores. I like buying online from Murray McMurray. We've always received healthy chicks that provide nice eggs and genetically healthy babies when we decide to allow some of the hens to set. And we always buy "heritage" breeds. We currently have Black jersey Giants, Buff Orpingtons and Dominique's. It seems in my area most folks don't have anything but mixed up birds. Oh and by the way Murray McMurray are great people to deal with :)

Here is a half Dominique & half Buff Orpington. Not sure if it's a hen or rooster. I'm anxious to see what it's going to look at when its grown. Anyone else have any of this mixture? We have 2 other young hens that are the same mixture and they're really odd looking birds. They aren't buff color but are black and white but nothing like the pure Dominique.

Hello fellow Kentuckians!

Could anyone tell me of a known source for gold laced Wyandottes in Kentucky? I have my heart set on this breed. If I could get some chicks locally, it would be better than ordering thru the mail

Did you find your birds? Mt Healthy Hatchery in Cincinnati is within driving distance (well my version of what counts as driving distance) and they advertise gold lace Wyandottes. I have not bought from them, though - I did buy some red lace Wyandotte from cackle hatchery, shipped to me, and so far they seem healthy and adorable.

Good luck ~

Hello! Just moved to Kentucky recently from Texas. I've been to other states, but Kentucky is the only other place I've ever felt at home! This place is so gorgeous.

I sadly do not have ducks anymore, but my family has young Leghorn chickens. I will be getting Welsh Harlequin ducks again in the next couple years, after we get their pond done and a large area fenced in for them. I am so excited to have ducks again!!
