Kentucky people

Hello everyone. I'm in PRP (Southwest part of Louisville ). I'm looking forward to spending time learning from everyone here. Getting my chicks tomorrow. Was supposed to get them today but the delivery truck ran late, let's hope they all make it.

Hello and welcome to BYC. We are in Fairdale. What kind of chicks are you getting?

Hey guys and gals. I am from Bowling Green. I have 14 chickens. 1 Black Austrolorp rooster, 1 Cuckcoo Maran rooster, 2 Black Austrolorp hens, 3 Cuckoo Maran hens, 2 Red Sex Links, 4 Easter Eggers, and 1 barnyard mix. Hoping to hatch out a few Olive Eggers pretty soon. Anybody else from around Bowling Green?

I got four from a place online and two from Rural King.
We are allowed 5 hens and a rooster. I'm taking that to mean if I don't want a rooster I get another hen ;)

We currently have 6 ducks, 18 orpingtons (5 lavenders, 13 buffs, with 10 black orpingtons in the incubator), and 6 seramas. We do some shipped eggs and some from a gentleman that I met from down near Bardstown. We are in Jefferson county but on the outskirts with a little over 2 acres so to my knowledge we have no limit on the number of chickens.

I got my chicks all healthy & alive despite a one day delay. I was so worried being a first time chicken mommy. I got them from mypetchicken.com. I ordered 2 Astralorps, 1 Plymouth barred rock, 1 New Hampshire red, and I couldn't make up my mind on the 5th so I asked them to surprise me. I think they gave me a Rhode Island red, can't go wrong there from what I have read.

I'm in PRP! Hi cristy!!!

Hi Jiffy!
Where abouts are you in PRP? I'm just off of the Greenbelt, off Greenwood. Been wondering about critters getting into coop. Mine are only 3 days old & not outside yet, but have you had any issues with your coop? I did all the critters proofing one could do when building , but one never knows what your going to attract. What has been your luck?

I'm kinda in between terry and Johnson town =P

Mine are in their coop now. And I know (from security camera footage) that we have coons, opossum, skunks, and stray cats near by- but the only one I've saw so far near the coop was the stray cat. (And the dog chased it away and it hasn't been back since) If they are coming around, they aren't getting in (which is great!) because I've seen no evidence.

Thanks! That makes me feel better. I've smelled the skunks & figured the coons & opossum. I too have a neighborhood cat that was eyeballing my parrot in her cage while I was gardening the other day, I'm sure to see him again when the girls finally get in their coop.
Thanks again!

Does anybody sell quail or quail eggs in or around Bowling Green? Also what about the Ayam Cemanis breed of chicken? Those things look awesome being completely black.
