Hi all -

Our start up farm is near Mt. Sterling, and we have 21 chicks right at seven weeks old.

2 Roos (EE, Wellsemer)
19 Pullets
*3 EE
*4 Australorp
*6 Speckled Sussex (4 were supposed to be Wellsemers, and Mt. Healthy is happy to correct with 4 wellsumers whenever we're ready),
*2 Cuckoo Marans,
*2 RI Reds,
*2 Buff Orpington

So far they are fantastic. The only issue we've had is getting them used to near dark at night. All but four of them are STILL piling up in a corner after a week. Was cold last two nights so we relented and turned on the red heat lamp (put it 8' tho instead of low).

Looking forward to reading about your flocks and learning about any local chicken related events.

We are planning on selling the extra eggs at our local farmers market.

Hey Mommahen2four, that little guy looks just like my EE Roo. How's his temperament?

And, how do your birds of different sizes get along? Does the hen protect her chicks from the flock? Or do you keep them segregated for awhile?

Little too is kind of flight sometime he starts lil pecking fight other time he's fine... mines a barred rock from TSC.. well momma has been in the grown up coop with babies I mean 3 are 2 days old and just hatched another one. Like literally in last couple hours. But yes momma is very protective. I haven't my smaller chickens in big coop yet. But they are in yard together. Bigger chickens check them out but don't pay much attention to them really. So I hope easy transition into big coop soon

Anyone in the Lousiville area interested in two free bantam roosters? The are very friendly we just live in a neighborhood and have a very small coop so I need to just keep hens for eggs, 2 of my 4 ended up being roosters. Please message me if your willing to take these sweet guys
