Cindy ,
Only one Copper hatched, the eggs are not being collected frequently .The 2 copper roos have frost bite on waddles also. I really thought the coop was pretty air tight and there is a heated water base in with them? They have all but stopped laying, guess will pick up this Spring.
Did Layne have a good Christmas? Tell him I said Hi.

Hi Matt,
Anconas are good layers and very pretty black/white birds...They are good layers of white med/lg eggs. Australorps hold the record on the most eggs laid in a year which was 364 eggs in 365 days...They are great layers of lg brown eggs. For something different you could think about Faverolles...They lay a med/lg tinted egg and will lay year round, but are slow developers as in 6-8 months old before starting to lay. Barred Rocks are awsome layers and sweet birds all around...Great temperament.

Speaking of BRs Meri: BC has attached herself to me and is under foot all the time unless I'm holding her. She knows her name and comes when I call to her, even at night when I go out to lock up, she'll talk to me on her way over to me like she's saying,"where you been all day I've been waiting for you?" She is sooo sweet.

BTW Hi all!!! And welcome to any noobies that may have joined while I was in and out....

lau.gif
, yeah, I sorta spoiled her when she was here - I didn't think you'd mind

She is a sweetheart. Naughty
lau.gif
, but a sweetheart - well, not really "naughty" -- maybe... Incorrigible.

Poor Cindy...all alone! Now she knows how I feel

But like I said, me and dad go every week to Sano, so I'll keep a look out for the birds. Where is that other auction croney00 was talking about? Anyone go there regularly?

I was thinking of getting the feather footed asst. (only like 5 or 10 chicks though), since they only have 3 feather foot breeds. But there are 4 different silkies, 3 different d'uccles, and 8 or 9 different cochins

I'd probably end up with one of each, and my luck they'd all be roos!

Hi,
Yes Layne had a great Christmas...Got almost everything he asked for, plus some, which wasn't really much. He is enjoying his vacation from school. Layne LOVES that buff Leghorn, he can pretty much just walk up and pick her up...I'll tell him he's gonna have a chase when he gets ready to hold her then he walks over and picks her up...Made a liar out of me.

No problem on the chicks just let me know when you have some you need to find a home for...And I'll also check in when I have a broody this Spring and see if you have anything available. The eggs in the bator are looking good despite the fact I have had to turn them by hand...Don't know how the ones are doing yet that I gave to Meri to put under her broody...I need to ask her.

Hope you had a great Christmas! Cindy

No idea - I haven't candled them. I have to go in every other day, though, to take out extra eggs that get laid in her nest. I am hoping she is covering them all really well. I took out 5 eggs today and tossed them out - unmarked ones. This explains why my egg count has gone down in that coop

.

I walked down there today and she was off the nest getting a drink, and saw me and ran back to jump into the nest box to cover her eggs. She knew I was gonna take some. She gets so many of them, though, that she can't possibly keep them all covered.

I'll let ya know when they hatch, ought to be, what, another week? I forgot to write it down. I think I got them the weekend of the 13th/14th, though to put under her.

no bids on "my" egg basket yet... 2 more hours.... It is either cobalt blue or purple, hard to tell from the pics, and it is one of the onion shaped wire baskets - very pretty, and bigger than most of them on there.

Cindy, when those hatch, do you want me to take them from her so you can brood them? or do ya want me to let her brood them for ya?
Let me know...

meri

I'll just brood them if it is easier on you. I am moving the brooder out to the shed outside the garage so I can get the tray out easier to clean it. Ron has it shoved back in the corner in the garage right now with stuff too close around it and I have to move everything to pull the tray out. I think it will be okay out there. I need to make little plexi windows for it since they were missing from the packaging. Ron did something with my instructions and doesn't remember where he put them so I can't call the company to get the missing windows. Bummer...

Oh yeah and whatever date I have on the eggs it is the following day instead...Had to clean the bator the day I was going to place them in and didn't get to till late that day so they were placed the next day.

Hey Cindy,
Does that pet store you got that fish from breed their own, or do they buy them as babies? I was thinking of seeing if I could trade them my big goldfish for a little one and a plecko. That way I won't have to get yet another bigger tank!

I can let her keep them, no problem, as long as it isn't too cold for them out there (like if she decides to take them on a field trip across the yard when it is raining and windy). I don't know for sure if she has just your eggs, or some of the other hens eggs, too - I never counted what ya gave me, and I've just been taking ones that didn't have marks on them out (but left a couple without marks).

I know,
lau.gif
bad chiknmama. I ought to be more organized, but I figured I'd be lucky if any of them hatched in this weather. It is easier if she keeps them, for both of us
lau.gif
cause if I take them I have to deal with a lonely hen, and you have to brood babies. I wonder if she'd accept those two orp babies, but they'd be 3 weeks old by the time hers hatched. Probably not.

Okay just let her keep them then...I gave her 9 eggs and they all had 12-13 on them I think, but I placed them on 12-14 so they'll be due the 4th. Part are Australorp, part are BLRW/BCM, Green ones of course EEs(can't remember if I gave you any of those)...Some came from Karen(Ms. Lewis Rich) and will have a K or Karen written on them. I did that so I'd know which ones hatched. The ones from Karen are the BLRW/BCM and the one I hatched before is solid blue, and the ones from tazcat70 are the Australorps and EEs. I think that was all I got other than what I kept in the bator here. I think I sent most of the Australorp eggs to your house. And some of the K eggs.
