I have 5 total wanting to hatch so far...3 are pipped and four are peeping and rocking. The first one I noticed a pip on this morning kind of rolled a little or something because now I can't remember which of these two side by side ones that it was since I can't see the pip anymore. Another pipped at the right end but on the side facing the screen...I was looking at the water wells and noticed some eggshell and was wondering where it came from then another piece dropped off under one of the bantams eggs from Tazcat. And total coolness!!! I got to watch one pip a few minutes ago while I was checking them I moved the light over just in time to see it pip the shell. I have a feeling I'll have 4-5 babies in the morning. Keeping all fingers and toes crossed for a good hatch as Tazcats eggs were treated very badly through the PO. Half of them were broken when I got them.
I'm thinking the first pip I can't find was one of Ms Lewis Rich's eggs can't see the top where I wrote on it though wrong angle. Dumb me put the large ends away from me so I can't see them.

Awesome Cindy! I must have missed the post, how many survived to the hatching stage.

I know at least 4 of the 5 rockers and pippers are yours...I think I took most of the others to Meri for her broody to hatch. 2 of the 3 bantams that survived the ordeal are rocking and one of these two is zipping right now.

ETA: I think I have 14 in the bator but 2 are Karens and the rest are yours and some of those didn't make it, just left them for the heat retention as long as they don't stink. Don't know about the EEs but I know 2 or 3 of the 4 were dark all through but couldn't see beyond that.

Congrats on the pips Cindy!! I still have about a week before I get any pippers then all heck will break loose! I have ducks due the 9th and 11th, quial (if any are fertile) due the 15th or 16th, frizzles due the 14th (I think!), silkies due the 23rd. Then I have some golden lakenvelders due to arrive tomorrow or Tuesday, and some BBS ameraucanas due to arrive then as well (my replacements thanks to the stupid mailman). I have some more duck eggs coming, but they won't be due till the beginning of next month, and all those babies will be going to the sale. I don't need that breed, not even sure why I got them! I hope I can tell sexes of babies before the big sales start up! It would be good to get some good bucks for them!

I don't know!! I just realized I don't have a chick brooder or a brooder for little baby ducks (the ones I have will be 3 weeks old when the newbies arrive!). Plus I have no place to brood them at!!

Maybe I'll have to sweet talk Meri and see if she wouldn't mind spoiling...er, uh...brooding some babies for me?

Get a couple of those really big clear bins at DG and cut out the middle of the lid and put wire or screen over it with Duct tape. Put a layer of that rubber shelf liner in the bottom and keep a couple more pieces cut and handy so you can replace the old one and wash it while you have a clean one in there... Then put a 60 watt bulb in one of those ceramic brooder lights and set it in the bin on its side. Voila!!! a brooder.

Worked for me...Til I got my super mega brooder

The biggest problem is I have no place to put them!! I guess I could put it in the bathtub, it would just have to be kicked out once in a while! Oh what a mess I have gotten myself into!! Hurry up spring!

Obiously you have not seen my closet! There is barely enough room to walk in there, with the toy box and all the shipping supplies I have in there! I need a storage shed to put a lot of my stuff (and dad's junk) in!

And I took the tree down today, so dad moved that couch back.

Not sure if he would let me keep them in the living room anyway! I'll have to ask him!

I could always get a stronger light and seperate the brooder on the porch. That way the BTB girl can't bully the new babies! She thinks she is hot stuff!

Oh and guess what? I was figuring up how many different breeds I would have this spring....it was either 14 or 15, counting different colors.

Glad I saw Bluedog's set up, that will give me a lot more room for cages!

Cindy

Oh yeah and Good Morning!!! Welcome to the Crazy Ky forum ladrifter.

Layne is back in school today...

alrighty - Update on Miss Piggy -

No new hatches, and the one that hatched yesterday was dead this morning - I took him out of her nest (she was still sitting on him) and it looked like his navel area hadn't closed, and his guts were on the outside.

he looked like he was probably an Australorp chick. Had a lighter black on him, though, almost a dark grey, but with the whitish throat and belly like they have. Maybe a mix?

I thought it seemed kid of early to hatch, since they were colder, and transported, I didn't figure on any action until today at the earliest.

Maybe we'll get some babies, yet, though, she is sticking tight to the nest.
