I'm gonna order some tolouse goslings from metzer this spring sometime. Just a pair, though, I don't need too many (and Metzer will sex them).

Hey, Layne climbed into the new little coop, I put the new kids in, to put up the girls and guy and those Japs were screaming like a woman when he'd handle them. It was funny...One of the girls that he got from Ms Lewis Rich did that when we first got them. That one is really sweet now and just loves Layne holding her.

Oh yeah, so far today got a pip and a rocker...Both are from Tazcats eggs, I think the Australorp.

Meri, yours may take a few more days since we had to transport and they were being shuffled out and around between the other hens laying in the nest.

what do weeder geese look like?

I don't want emdens, I looked at those, and I believe that is what the ones that a friend had when I was a kid - every emden goose Ive ever met has been a nasty biter

I was torn between the buff the pilgrim and the tolouse. I think I'll go with tolouse, though. Plus, hubby isn't totally sold on the idea yet, so getting babies may make it easier for him to take

Yeah every embden goose I've been around has been mean. I think I'll stick with my baby buffs I'm getting.

Meri~~The 'weeder' geese are probably the brown chinese, with the big honker on top of their beaks.

I lived in Shepherdsville and graduated from BCHS many many years ago. Used to work at Mario's Restaurant in Mt Washington as a teen...Don't think it's there anymore now is it?

Hey Shelley now your dad has something in common with someone on here.

engleky!!

We have some rollers and some capuchines that are show birds. We also have a pair of homers that have since had 2 sets of young. We do not show the birds, but the person we got them from did. Hope you have fun, we are a great bunch of crazy people!!

Todd,

Welcome to the Kentucky Thread. Todd has some really nice birds gang. Todd is the person I got my breeder pairs of Homers from.

By the way did you ever discover what was wrong with that one pair we swapped out? Were they to closely bred? The other pair is consistently producing chicks for me, and the young pair has managed to produce one chick. But they are all healthy and doing well.

Welcome, Todd

I have one baby hatching out in the coop - it's a dark one, so not sure if it is Cindy's egg or one of my eggs. He's about halfway out of the shell. I had to put a cage in front of the nest box to keep Miss Celie out - she kept wanting to get in there to lay her egg on top of the poor baby trying to hatch. Stoopid Miss Piggy was letting her in, too.

If Miss Piggy gets off the nest before they all hatch (cause I got way more eggs in there than I ought to have) I'll candle them then put anything left into the incubator and see what hatches. I hope her hatch turns out better than Old Biddy's last hatch - only had two hatch out of 8 eggs that time. (would have had three, but one got crushed while hatching.)

So, I got action happening

I love it when they hatch with the broody hen - so much easier than having them in my house watching the bator

So, I been thinking (since my neighbor called me earlier) about getting those hens at the Amish Guy's house, anyway, if they are Rocks or Delawares I'll take em, or if they are anything decent, I'll take some. I got more orders for eating eggs than I got eggs. Of course, the layer pen ought to pick up after this hatch is done. (they won't be laying their eggs under the broody hen). Even then it isn't enough, though.

Jamie just got 4 dozen off me friday night, and he called this morning wanting a few dozen more for his dad.

they don't lay THAT fast.
Hubby says yeah, go ahead and buy all the laying/dual purpose hens I got room for
